Special-Purposed Forest (also known as Kawasan Hutan Dengan Tujuan Khusus/KHDTK) Hambala is defined as forest area for research and development, education and training. Unfortunately, its potency has not been known completely. One of the biodiversity potencies in this area is avifauna. Population and avifauna diversity can be used to measure the development's sustainability. Therefore, avifauna is accepted as a key indicator of the health of the environment and overall biodiversity situation. This study was aimed to get information about the diversity of avifauna and their abundance in KHDTK Hambala. The research conducted with encounter rates method, the random exploration was done three times at morning and afternoon. The results showed that KHDTK Hambala has high species diversity with diversity index value of 3.06. Thirty six species from 24 families were encountered during the study. About 11% (4 species) bird is abundance, 39% (14 species) bird is common, 19% (7 species) bird is frequent, 6% (2 species) bird is uncommon, and 25% (9 species) bird is rare.
Transisi ketika individu menjadi mahasiswa tahun pertama membutuhkan adaptasi tersendiri.
Streak-breated honeyeater (Microptilotis reticulatus) is one of the endemic honeyeater birds from Meliphagidae family. Biological information on this species is very limited and poorly known. Field observation was carried out on the active nest found in 2 October 2013. In addition, investigation on social media (facebook) was carried out to examine the exploitation on this species. The results shows that the cup-shaped nest is 5.6 cm in diameter and 4.9 cm in depth, made by wood fibre, dry grass, glued by cotton fibre from plants and spider web on small branch. Nowadays M. reticulatus is trapped and traded without any regulation from management authority. As many as 651 individuals has been trapped and sold between 2016 and 2019.
Sumba cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata, Fraser 1844) is an endemic fauna to Sumba Island that critically endangered. Conservation efforts based on an ecological approach is needed to preserve it. This study aimed to determine habitat preferences and in-situ conservation strategies for Sumba cockatoos in the Maunupeu Tanadaru area, Matalawa National Park. Observations were made in four forest blocks. Exploration was carried out to determine the existence of Sumba cockatoos by the Look and See method. Habitat preference analysis was performed using the Neu method. The results showed that Sumba cockatoos preferred habitats that have an altitude range of 401 -600 meters above sea level, and slope level of steep slope (41 -55%), sloping (3-8%) and very steep (> 55%). The most preferred location was in the Kokur Forest Block. Based on the results, in-situ conservation strategies that can be carried out including: (1) Safeguarding nest trees from natural and human threats; (2) Cleaning strangler figs and lianas on trees that are important to cockatoos; (3) Enrichment of essential plants for cockatoos by planting saplings. The results of this study are expected to be useful as a reference for area managers in determining in-situ conservation strategies through habitat development using the habitat preference approach.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
