In this study, the direct and indirect relations between school culture and the organisational commitment of primary school teachers were analyzed. The subjects of the research consisted of primary school teachers who worked at a district in Istanbul in the academic year 2007-2008. The sampling group was defined by the cluster sampling method. In total 200 teachers participated. Two scales were used to collect data, the organisational commitment scale (OCS) and the school culture scale (SCS). Linear regression and path analysis were used to explain the influence of school culture on organisational commitment, and LİSREL 7 was used as a structural equation model. The findings indicated that although there was a positive correlation between school culture and organisational commitment, the direct effect of school culture on organisational commitment was not meaningful.
AbstractValues are influencing tools for the leaders as much as they are important for all humanity. Strong leadership begins to have strong values. The aim of this study is developing value-based leadership scale. The study was carried out on 1179 students who are studying at educational faculty and faculty of arts and sciences at a university in Central Anatolia. The scale development study was started with a comprehensive literature search and an item pool was prepared in accordance with the theoretical basis. A 72-item draft scale, which was selected from the item pool, was presented to expert opinions in terms of content and language validity and a 54-item trial form was obtained. The pilot application was carried out on 654 and the main application on 525 participants. In both stages, Exploratory and Confirmatory factor analyzes, item and reliability analyzes were performed. The results of the analyzes showed that a 4 factor scale with 31 items was obtained. The factors of this scale account for 65.66 % of the variance. The model fit indices (χ2/df =1.48; CFI=0.966; NFI=0.904; IFI=0.966; TLI=0.957 and RMSEA=0.05) were within acceptable limits. In conclusion, it has been decided that this scale can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool. The findings are discussed on the basis of relevant literature.
In this study, the effects of family leadership orientation on social entrepreneurship, generativity and academic education success were examined with the views of college students. The study was conducted at a state university in Central Anatolia in Turkey. 402 college students who attending at three different colleges voluntarily participated in this study. Data were collected by the utilization of Family Leadership Orientation Scale, Social Entrepreneurship Scale, Generativity Scale and Grade Points of Average (GPA) of the students. Data were analyzed by quantitative analysis techniques. The findings showed that college students were pretty under the influence of economic family leadership with 4.52 average score. Social entrepreneurship (3.71), generativity (3.61) and academic achievement (3.03) were evaluated by the students as good level. There were statistically significant differences in terms of gender and academic achievement for economic and social family leadership orientation. The results of regression analyses showed that the family leadership orientation explains 27% of social entrepreneurship; 16% of generativity and 5% of academic achievement. The family leadership perception, which constitutes three dimensions, namely social, cultural and economic, affects the students' social entrepreneurship and this consequently influences their generativity and academic achievement.
The relationship between prospective teachers' preferred strategies for coping with stress and their perceptions of student control were examined by use of a relational survey model to determine the relations between these concepts. The study group consisted of 267 prospective teachers at the Faculty of Education in Kırşehir, Turkey. Data were collected from senior class faculty students using 2 scales: The Ways of Coping Scale (WCS) originally developed by Lazarus and Folkman (1984) and adapted into Turkish by Şahin and Durak (1994) and the Scale of Locus of Student Control developed by Miller et al. (1988) and adapted into Turkish by Abacı (1996). Pearson moment correlation was used to analyze the data. Findings showed that there was a noticeable meaningful statistical relation between variables. Findings are discussed based on the literature.
