The purpose of this study was to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of character education for students using M-Learning-based media containing content and display according to the needs and interests of students at the elementary school level. The method used is the Design and Development research method, with data collection carried out including literature studies, interviews, validation with experts, and questionnaires. The final results of this study are user tasks, evidence of student character changes, prototype designs, and mobile applications in providing an understanding of character values with a good user experience and displaying content that is in accordance with the needs and interests of students so that they are motivated to implement every positive character value they learn. This is because Civics Caring Apps provides customized types of text, graphics, audio, video, quizzes, animations, and interactivity to allow everyone to access various forms of media to create more meaningful programs for users. Based on the research that has been done, the online learning process (on the network) has hampered the process of internalizing character education in students. The presence of Civics Caring Apps has been proven to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the character-building process of students during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Latar Belakang: Kemunculan pandemi COVID-19 telah memberikan pengaruh terhadap berbagai lini kehidupan, termasuk dalam aspek pendidikan. Pembelajaran dilakukan secara daring (dalam jaringan), sehingga interaksi antara guru dan siswa sangatlah terbatas. Selain terhambatnya penanaman aspek kognitif, internalisasi nilai-nilai karakter pun ikut terhambat. Sehingga dibutuhkan sebuah media edukatif berbasis pendidikan karakter yang tidak terbatas ruang dan waktu. Civics Caring Apps menyajikan skema penanaman nilai-nilai karakter yang diintegrasikan dengan games edukatif sehingga sesuai dengan minat serta kebutuhan peserta didik. Tujuan: Untuk meningkatkan efektivitas dan efisiensi guru dalam menginternalisasi nilai-nilai karakter kepada peserta didik meskipun pembelajaran dilakukan secara daring. Metode: Menggunakan metode penelitian model Design and Development (D&D) atau desain dan pengembangan. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi literatur, wawancara dan angket. Hasil: Bahwa akhir penelitian ini adalah task user, bukti perubahan karakter peserta didik, prototype design dan aplikasi android dalam memberikan pemahaman nilai karakter dengan user experience yang baik serta tampilan konten yang interaktif sehingga membuat peserta didik termotivasi untuk mengimplementasikan setiap nilai karakter positif yang dipelajarinya. Kesimpulan: proses pembelajaran daring (dalam jaringan) telah menghambat proses internalisasi pendidikan karakter pada peserta didik. Kehadiran Civics Caring Apps telah terbukti dapat meningkatkan efektivitas dan efisiensi proses pembentukan karakter peserta didik pada masa COVID-19.
This research presents an approach in cultivating and shaping the character of students at the elementary school level through Prototype Civics Caring (Character Building) Apps as an Android-based learning media that integrates learning models Value Clarification Technique (VCT) with games-based learning methods. Currently there are many applications that aim to instill character education in children, but not many applications provide an introduction to character building from the perspective of children and parents, testing understanding, and monitoring student activities, as well as testimonials that parents or guardians can fill out in every month. During the Covid-19 pandemic, learning activities were carried out online, which of course decreased the effectiveness of teachers in controlling the character building of students. Therefore, the Civics Caring Apps Prototype presents a character values planting scheme that aims as a special medium that can monitor and control the character formation of students. The method used is the design and development (D&D) model research method or design and development. The data collection method is done by studying literature, interview, and questionnaire. The contribution of research to science includes the field of Citizenship Education and the field of Sociology. The results of this study are user tasks, evidence of student character changes, prototype design and android applications in providing understanding of character values with good user experience and interactive content display to motivate students to implement each positive character value they learn.
