Solvent-resistant polyurethanes have been prepared from polyols containing pendant nitrile functions. The polyols were prepared by cationic co- & terpolymerization of β-cyanoethyl glycidyl ether (CEGE) with tetrahydrofuran, ethylene oxide, propylene oxide or epichlorohydrin. CEGE-based polyurethanes combine the hydrolytic, stability of the polyether-based materials with the solvent resistance of polyester-based materials. Physical properties of the polyurethanes are somewhat defensive, but sufficient to prepare coated fabrics. Solvent-resistant polyurethane foams were prepared from the triol produced via reaction of CEGE and N-aminoethylpiperazine.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
