Le 16 septembre 2000, au cours d'une prospection spéléologique menée sur la commune du Buisson-de-Cadouin, Marc Delluc et Fabrice Massoulier, tous deux membres du Spéléo-Club de Périgueux, devaient reconnaître l'entrée d'une cavité au développement limité à une douzaine de mètres seulement. Après avoir franchi une première chatière, qui marquait jusqu'à ce jour le terme de ce conduit, puis un passage très bas -d'une dizaine de mètres de long -leur progression fut temporairement arrêtée par un éboulis de blocs et de plaquettes calcaires qui obstruait le conduit. M. Delluc retourna seul sur le site le samedi suivant et constata qu'à travers les éléments lithiques disjoints soufflait un violent courant d'air, indice présageant d'un élargissement important du conduit, ce qui l'incita à persévérer dans sa progression. Son opiniâtreté porta ses fruits au cours d'une troisième intervention, le samedi 30 du même mois, car la réduction partielle de l'obstacle lui autorisa l'accès à une très grande galerie qu'il parcourut sur une centaine de mètres. Au cours de cette incursion, il devait reconnaître les premières gravures pariétales de ce sanctuaire.Il poursuivit l'exploration le samedi suivant, 7 octobre, en compagnie de Hervé Durif et de Fabrice Massoulier. Six cents mètres de galerie furent ainsi reconnus, mais, devant la multiplication des indices attestant d'une présence humaine passée, ils interrompirent leur progression afin de ne point dégrader les sols, en partie argileux.La grotte ornée de Cussac (Dordogne) .
