The study assessed principals’ compliance with Federal Ministry of Education guidelines on schools and learning facilities reopening after COVID-19 closures in South-East Nigeria. One research question guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 1,378 principals in 1,378 public secondary schools in south east, Nigeria. A sample size of 689 principals was drawn for the study using multi-stage sampling procedure. The instrument titled ‘‘Federal of Ministry of Education Joint Assessment Checklist for Safe Reopening of Schools and Learning Facilities (FMEJACSRSLF)’’ was utilized for data collection. The instrument was duly validated by three experts and using Cronbach alpha method for test of internal consistency, reliability index of 0.81 was obtained. Data collected were analyzed using arithmetic mean and standard deviation. The results of the study revealed among other that principals’ comply with Federal Ministry of Education guidelines on schools and learning facilities reopening after COVID-19 closures in South-East Nigeria to a great extent. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that the State Ministry of Education should ensure that at least two qualified health personnel are employed and posted on full time basis to man each of the secondary schools to provide services to contain and minimize the spread of the virus.
The study investigated the personnel management practices adopted by principals in the administration of secondary schools in Awka Education Zone, Anambra State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance. Mixed research design was employed for the study. The population of the study was comprised of 1,642 respondents, with 61 principals and 1,518 teachers from the Awka Education Zone of Anambra State. Multiple stage sampling technique was used to sample 485 respondents which consisted of 30 principals and 455 teachers. The instruments for data collection were questionnaire and interview. The instrument was validated by three experts who are lecturers in the Faculty of Education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using Cronbach alpha and it yielded reliability coefficients of .78 and .72 for Cluster I and Cluster II, respectively. The overall coefficient of the entire instrument was found to be .75. Data analysis was performed using mean and standard deviation. It was found that staff personnel management practices adopted by principals in their administration of secondary schools in the Awka Education Zone, Anambra State, include; motivating of teachers, encouraging team building so as to promote cohesiveness in the school, supervising teachers' activities, disciplining of teachers exhibiting misconduct behaviors, delegating duties to teachers, mentoring of teachers, rendering counseling services to teachers, recommending staff for promotion, and appraising staff performances. Pupil' absenteeism and lateness to school, dilapidated and shortage of relevant facilities in primary schools in the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State seems to suggest lapses in parent-teacher association involvement in school affairs. This prompted the researchers to ascertain the extent of parent-teacher association (PTA) involvement in the implementation of universal basic education program in primary schools in the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State. Three research questions guided the study and three null hypotheses were tested. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was comprised of all 250 head teachers and all PTA members at all 250 primary schools in the Northern Senatorial District. Multiple stage sampling technique was used to sample 205 respondents made up of 75 head teachers and 130 PTA members. The researchers developed an instrument titled "Parent-Teacher Association Involvement in School Questionnaire (PTAISQ)" which was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using Cronbach alpha and it yielded an overall reliability coefficient value of .76. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed among others that the extent of PTA involvement in maintenance of facilities in the implementation of universal basic education program in primary schools in the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State was high. Based on the findings, recommendations were made and conclusions were drawn.
Most postgraduate students in federal and state universities rarely complete their thesis/dissertation at the appropriate time. It therefore becomes necessary to determine the factors that contribute to postgraduate students' delay in their thesis/dissertation completion in federal and state universities in south east, Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was utilized to assess 1,254 students sampled from a population of all the postgraduate students in federal and state universities, south east, Nigeria using multistage sampling procedure. Questionnaire titled ''Factors that Contribute to Delay in Postgraduate Students' Thesis/Dissertation Completion (FCDPSTDC)'' was used for data collection. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation and the hypotheses were tested using t-test. The findings of the study revealed among others that supervisors and students' related factors contribute to the delay of postgraduate students' completion of their thesis/dissertation in federal and state universities, south east, Nigeria. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that university management should organize mandatory yearly orientation programme for postgraduate students to equip them with research skills and also guide them on how to properly write and complete thesis/dissertation at the stipulated time.
