Abstract-A circular slotted elliptical patch antenna with an elliptical notch in ground for L-band and S-band application is presented. The proposed antenna consists of an elliptical patch with a circular notch on the top layer of a substrate, and a wide elliptical slot and an elliptical notch with two symmetrical slots on the bottom layer of the same substrate. The proposed antenna was fabricated on an FR-4 substrate (tan(δ)= 0.02,ε r = 4.3) with the thickness of 1.6 mm, and it was excited by coaxial feed joined with microstrip line through via. The proposed antenna exhibited the bandwidth of 102.58% from 1.32 GHz to 4.1 Hz for |S 11 | < −10 dB. Surface current distribution and radiation pattern at resonating frequencies 1.71, 2.28, 3.03 and 3.84 GHz were analyzed. Evolution of the antenna and effect of parameters were also studied to know the behavior of the antenna.
Abstract-A wide slot antenna with Y shape tuning element is presented for wireless applications (GSM 1800, WiMAX, PCS and ITM-2000). The proposed antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 substrate (tan(δ) = 0.02, ε r = 4.3) with the thickness of 1.6 mm. On the top layer of the substrate, a 50 ohm microstrip line is fabricated which is terminated in Y shape tuning element. On ground plane, an irregular wide slot and triangular notch are etched. In addition, for performance improvement two triangular shaped parasitic slots are embedded on the ground plane. The proposed antenna is energized by the microstrip line. It exhibited the bandwidth of 127.55% from 1.15 GHz to 5.2 GHz for |S 11 | < −10 dB. Surface current distribution and radiation pattern at resonating frequencies 1.25, 1.9 and 4.2 GHz are analyzed. Impact of parameters on S 11 characteristic is also studied to know the behavior of the antenna.
A novel Scarecrow-shaped patch antenna has been presented for broadband applications. The proposed antenna composed of an elliptical shape radiating patch, partial ground plane, and 50 Ω microstrip line which is Boolean added with the radiating patch. To achieve wide impedance bandwidth, an elliptical notch and two rectangular-shaped parasitic slots have incorporated on the ground plane. This antenna has printed on FR-4 substrate (tan(δ) = 0.02, εr = 4.3) with the thickness of 1.6 mm. It is energized by coaxial feed which is connected with a microstrip line through via. The proposed configuration has examined numerically with the help of CST Microwave Studio and experimentally also. The broadband property of this antenna has been achieved by adjusting the dimensions of an elliptical notch. The antenna exhibits the bandwidth of 116.32% from 1.23 to 4.65 GHz for S11 <−10 dB. Current distribution and far-field pattern at resonating frequencies 1.29, 1.77, 2.28, 2.94, and 3.72 GHz have been studied. It has been found that the far-field pattern is distorted at frequency 3.72 GHz due to higher order modes. Effect of parameters on frequency response of the antenna has also been investigated to know the behavior of the antenna.
