Introduction: Mothers can immediately recognize the strength of their child’s development process, thereby, providing early stimulation to the child’s physical, mental, and social aspects of growth and development. Therefore, mothers and their skills play a beneficial role in the child’s overall development and growth process. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of the mother’s independent stimulation on the growth and development of infants. Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a nonrandomized pretest-posttest design. The study population included mothers and their 0- to 12-month-old infants with a history of Low Birth Weight (LBW) who met the inclusion criteria. The study was conducted in Karang Pule Health Center’s service area in Mataram City, Indonesia. The length measuring tools and digital infant scale were used to measure the developmental factors. Also, the prescreening development questionnaire was used to assess the infants’ development. The frequency, mean, and standard deviation were used as descriptive statistical analysis, also, the Wilcoxon test was used for bivariate analysis. Results: The growth and developmental scores of the infants with LBW increased after receiving the independent stimulation from their mothers. The observed changes were as follows: The Mean±SD weight gain of 547.33±1459.40 g, the Mean±SD body length increase of 3.46±6.32 cm, the Mean±SD head circumference increase of 1.65±3.40 cm, and the Mean±SD infants’ development increase of 0.83±2.16 cm. Furthermore, the mother’s independent stimulation affected the growth (P=0.0001; body length, weight, and head circumference) and the development (P=0.04) of the infants with LBW history. Conclusion: Mother’s independent stimulation significantly influences the growth (body length, weight, and head circumference) and the development of infants with LBW history. Further studies in this area are recommended.
This research objective is to analyze the effect of children under five year mother class program to mother’s knowledge and attitude to detect the children growth and development. The research is dummy experiment with nonrandomized pretest posttest design. The research is applied to mothers having children age 0 – 59 months in Puskesmas (Community Health Service Center) Gunungsari work region as many as 30 persons. The result is there are improvement of average knowledge and attitude score after the class. Previous average score of the mothers knowledge is 0.33 point and attitude 1.8367 point. After one month of the class, average score of the mothers knowledge become 0.67 point and attitude 2.1334 point. Statistic test result that there is effect of children under five year mother class program in mother’s knowledge and attitude to detect the children growth and development. There is no effect of the class implementation to mothers knowledge and there is effect of the class implementation to mothers attitude after one month intervention.
Background: Side effects that may often occur after immunization include fever in infants after to combined Diptheri Pertusis Tetanus/Hepatitis B (DPT/HB) vaccine. Fever in infants or toddlers is a case that cannot be ignored because it can interfere with the comfort and development of infants and toddlers. Objectives: This research aims to analyze the effects of baby massage in lowering body temperature among babies given combined DPT/HB immunization. Material and Methods: It is a quasi-experiment using one intervention group. The population and sample are babies aged 2-5 months visiting the Work Area of Puskesmas Lombok Barat in Indonesia that meet inclusion criteria. Baby massage was administered in the morning and in the afternoon for 5 days, with the first 2 days prior to combined DPT/HB immunization 1, the second 1 day at the time of immunization, and the last 2 days after immunization. The same treatment was also carried out for combined DPT/HB immunization 2. Prior and after massage, baby temperatures were measured at the axila using a digital thermometer, with the results put in an observation sheet (graph). Body temperature measurement was observed for 2 months. Data gathered were then tested using non-parametric test (Wilcoxon). Results: there is reduction in body temperature among babies given combined DPT/HB immunization 1 and combined DPT/HB immunization 2. Babies given combined DPT/HB immunization 1 had average body temperature of 0,2±0.18 °C in the morning and 0,21±0.25 °C in the afternoon. Meanwhile, babies given combined DPT/HB immunization 2 had average body temperature of 0,26±0.19 °C in the morning and 0,2±0.23 °C in the afternoon. Effect of massage in reducing body temperature among babies given combined DPT/HB immunization 1 is at (p<0.005) and at (p<0.005) for combined DPT/HB immunization 2. Conclusion: massage can be performed before or after babies are immunized with combined DPT/HB to lower their body temperature.
Keterampilan pijat Bayi pada peserta bervariasi sesuai dengan tingkat Pendidikan peserta dan pengalaman peserta dalam merawat bayi dan melakukan pemantauan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anaknya. a labor pain can affect maternal conditions for instance fatigue, fear, anxiety or worry and cause stress that may cause the interference on uterus contractions and influence the length of labor. One of nonpharmacologic methods that can be used to relievea labor pain is a breathing relaxation and massage techniques. The research aimed to analyze the influence of combination between breathing relaxations and massage techniques for mothers against pain intensity, duration of labor and APGAR scores for newborn at the Public Health Center of Masbagik East Lombok. This research used Quasi-Experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample applied 30 mothers who were in the first stage of labor that meet the inclusion criteria. The data were analyzed by Wilcoxon Sign-Rank Test, Mann-Whitney test and t two independent samples. The result indicated the comparison of pain intensity in the the pretest and posttest of control group was p = 0.051>0.05 which means there is no difference on pain intensity before and after treatment in the control group. Although the comparison of pain intensity on the group that received the combination techniques is obtained either pretest or posttest was p=0.001<0.05 which means there is a difference which signed by the reduction of pain intensity before and after the treatment by 2.93. Besides, there was a correlation between the implementation of the technique against duration of labor by cervical opening as indicator (p = 0.000). APGAR scores on newborn on the group that received the technique of relaxation and massage was 7-10 (normal). In short, the implementation of the technique can be used as an integral part of providing basic help for mothers to relieve labor pain and to accelerate delivery process.
