This study adopts the bibliometric approach to identify the key characteristics in the relationship of demographic factors (age, gender, affiliations, and locations), scientific productivity, and the collaboration among development economics researchers in Vietnam during the period 2008–2020. Overall, the number of publications and authors in development economics are rising steeply with the average annual growth rate of nearly 23% and 26%, respectively. Moreover, the ‘quality’ of the research appears to be high as 59% of the articles are published in journals in the first and second quartile according Scimago journal ranking. However, the citation counts for these studies indicate their impacts are far more languishing in comparison. In terms of research trends, this study identified three emerging areas of studies that are relatively under-researched, namely natural resources, technology, and urbanization. As for publishing practices, There is also a positive sign for the adoption of open science among Vietnamese researchers in this field. The findings are useful for predicting future research trends. In addition, the study provides several implications for policymakers in Vietnam to enhance research capacity.
This paper endeavors to understand the research landscape of finance research in Vietnam during the period 2008 to 2020 and predict the key defining future research directions. Using the comprehensive database of Vietnam’s international publications in social sciences and humanities, we extract a dataset of 314 papers on finance topics in Vietnam from 2008 to 2020. Then, we apply a systematic approach to analyze four important themes: Structural issues, Banking system, Firm issues, and Financial psychology and behavior. Overall, there have been three noticeable trends within finance research in Vietnam: (1) assessment of financial policies or financial regulation, (2) deciphering the correlates of firms’ financial performances, and (3) opportunities and challenges in adopting innovations and ideas from foreign financial market systems. Our analysis identifies several fertile areas for future research, including financial market analysis in the post-COVID-19 eras, fintech, and green finance.

This paper sought to understand the research landscape of education for sustainable development (ESD) globally from 1991 to 2021. Applying bibliometric analysis on 632 papers indexed in the Web of Science database, we examined the structure of research on ESD. While productivity has peaked in recent years, the impact of the articles in this field remains relatively medium. The four most impactful publishing journals are Sustainability, Journal of Cleaner Production, International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, and Environmental Education Research. We find research in ESD is still dominated by Western European authors, although collaboration with Asia, South Africa, North and South America are recorded to be on the rise. The bibliometric analysis and a comprehensive review help synthesize key findings regarding students’ attitudes and perceptions toward ESD, ESD in higher education, and competency-based education. Importantly, this study identifies the shift from content-based education toward interactive and participatory style of pedagogy for successful ESD integration at all levels of education. There are several emerging research themes such as policy impacts and ESD programs analyses, which can provide high-value actionable insights for both educators and policymakers. The review brings into sharp relief an overarching sense of positivity regarding sustainability education among the students, yet equally, they feel a lack of concreteness and practicality in the current curriculum.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
