The objective of this work was to evaluate the yield of calyxes of Hibiscus sabdariffa L, a medicinal plant, at four planting times in Lavras MG. The treatments were four planting times ( th 2002) and a harvest was proceeded when practically there were no developing calyxes, almost at the end of the plant cycle. The numbers of calyxes per plant, the fresh and dry biomasses of calyxes and quality were taken into account. It follows that planting time influenced yield per plant and the fresh and dry biomasses of calyxes, differing from each other by Tukey test at 5%. In October planting, there was a higher yield (2,522kg/ha) with a yield 5.24 as high relative to the planting of the month of January (481 kg/ha). The planting s in the month of November to December showed yields of 1,695 and 1,093 kg/ha of dry calyxes, respectively and in relation to the same months of January, yield was of 3.52 to 2.27 times more. Harvest must be done as soon as the calyxes are ripe in order to preserve quality.Index Terms: Organic farming, calyx, medicinal plant, yield, vinegar plant.
ABSTRACTThe purpose of this work was to evaluate the polyembryony and characterize the fruits of the Swingle citrumelo and Poncirus trifoliata rootstocks. The experiment was conducted at the Universidade Federal de Lavras. Concerning a 100 fruits ripening per rootstock at three plants were colletes at randon. The polyembryony percentage in Swingle citrumelo and Poncirus trifoliata rootstocks was of 48.1% and 31.5% and embryos number per seeds of 1.6 and 1.4, respectively. The fruit weight was correlated with the follow characterizes: fruit length and diameter, vigorous and no vigorous seed, seed weight and germination percentage, polyembryony rate and number the embryos per seed. A positive correlation was obtained among the fruit weight with fruit length and diameter and number no vigorous seed for Swingle citrumelo and positive correlation among the fruit weight with fruit length and diameter, number vigorous seed, seed weight and germination percentage for Poncirus trifoliata.
ABSTRACTThe leaching of thiamethoxam in two Brazilian soils, a typic Acriferric Red Latosol (LV wf ) and a typic Dystrophic RedYellow Argisol (PVA d ), was investigated in macrolysimeters (1.0 m diameter and depth of 0.45, 0.90 and 1.80 m) of undisturbed material of the soils, which were kept without vegetation and under field conditions. The insecticide was applied at the beginning of the rainy season, using the formulation Actara 250 W , which was diluted in 100 mL of water and applied on the lysimeters surface. The water percolated through the lysimeters was collected until the end of rainy season of the following year, with samples being taken for determination of thiamethoxam concentration, performed by HPLC. The results showed a high mobility of thiamethoxam in both soils, with more intense leaching of the compound in the PVA d than in the LV wf . The total amounts of thiamethoxam leached below 0.45 m were equivalent to 53.8 and 19.4% of the applied amount, respectively for the PVA d and LV wf . Thiamethoxam residues were also found in the water collected from the 0.90 and 1.80 m lysimeters of both soils. These results indicate a high potential of thiamethoxam leaching under practical conditions of its use in the studied soils, despite the lack of vegetation..
