This qualitative study aimed at learning the masculine conception of paternity and understanding the masculine strategies to cope the legal, social and affective pressures of this process. The collection of information was done through semi-structured interview with eight adolescents from Porto Alegre - RS, Brasil, ranging between 15 and 19 years old, who experienced paternity. The interpretation and analysis were based on the content analysis. From the analysis of these youngsters' reports the following categories have emerged: Adolescents Relationship; Paternity and Gender; and, Meaning of Being a Father. The attentive look to paternity in adolescence brings to light the comprehension of issues regarding the masculine exclusion in objective life experiences marked by the commitment with paternity.
The experience of the climacteric period is the object of the present descriptive-qualitative study with women from the cities of Canoas and Porto Alegre, RS. The collection of data was carried out through semi-structured interviews with 15 women aged from 41 to 59 years old. The interpretation and analysis were based on the analysis of content. The women interviewed were confused regarding what climacteric is, relating it to the symptoms associated to aging. They acknowledged that this phase of their lives presents positive aspects and experience it without worries. The perceptions of the women interviewed are fragmented and medical care professionals believe it is an illness subject to treatment. Therefore, these professionals, who are constantly interacting with women in the climacteric period, could help demystify and resignify this process in their lives.
RESUMOObjetivo: conhecer mitos e tabus relativos à maternidade e suas implicações no processo saúde/doença. Método: pesquisa desenvolvida na abordagem qualitativa, no ambiente natural, com mulheres de classes populares que vivenciaram a maternidade. A seleção dos sujeitos foi intencional e a coleta de dados realizada por meio de entrevistas e observação participante durante a prestação de cuidados à saúde dessas mulheres. A análise dos dados seguiu a orientação da análise de conteúdo. Constatou-se que o tema em estudo permeia, como uma ideologia, o viver das mulheres. Mitos e tabus são relacionados à saúde/doença: higiene no pós-parto; proteção da integridade do recém-nascido; menstruação; alternativas para solucionar problemas de saúde; questões de gênero: condutas que seguem para evitar tornarem-se "mulheres fáceis". Há elementos que traduzem os valores culturais do cotidiano das mulheres e a necessidade da junção entre o conhecimento científico e as práticas populares.
