The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of a multicomponent exercise program on the physical and hemodynamic functions of community-dwelling older adults with low schooling levels in relation to simple multicomponent group exercises. Twenty-one older people were randomly assigned to two groups: G1 (n = 11) and G2 (n = 10); sixteen of whom completed the sixteen sessions over a six-week period, three times a week. During eight sessions, G1 performed adapted dual-task multicomponent exercises (strengthening, balance, and cognition) and G2 simple multicomponent exercises (strengthening and balance), and both groups engaged in eight additional sessions of simple multicomponent exercises. The dual-task multicomponent exercises exhibited similar effects to those of their simple multicomponent counterparts. The older adults from both groups improved mobility, frailty, static postural control, balance, and hemodynamic stability. The adapted program was beneficial to the community-dwelling older people with low schooling in the group intervention.

Background: Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that has a prevalence of 18–328 per 100,000 in habitants in developing countries, with an estimated 3.3% of the Brazilian elderly population affected by PD throughout life. The classic symptoms include a resting tremor, muscular rigidity, bradykinesia and postural instability, which are all motor symptoms. The mobility of the subjects is compromised early, thus impairing their balance and limiting their ability to perform simple tasks. The restricted movement prevents dissociation between the head and trunk during walking, and freezing occurs as advanced disease reduces the progression of movements during walking. Objective: To analyze mobility and functionality profiles in subjects with Parkinson’s disease and compare them with healthy subjects. Method: A sample was consisted of 10 subjects with PD and 10 healthy elderly subjects. Assessment tools were used to quantify the severity of PD the scale Hoehn and Yah (HY), for mobility were used the Dynamic Parkinson’s Gait Scale (DYPAGS) and Modified Parkinson Activity Scale (PAS modified), for functionality were used the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and dual task (DT) performance. Results: The subjects with PD showed worse performance in mobility and DT as determined by the modified PAS (p=0.0001) and DYPAGS (p=0.0001). Correlations were found between the UPDRS, the Gait Freezing Questionnaire (FOG), the PAS modified score, left-hand grip strength and the HY values (p<0.05). There were no differences in prehensile muscle strength between PD and healthy subjects. Conclusions: Subjects with PD showed decreased mobility and functionality for activities related to ADLs, gait and DT compared to healthy elderly subjects. Disease severity, muscle strength and freezing were correlated with the mobility and DT performance in subjects with PD.

O objetivo deste estudo foi traduzir e adaptar transculturalmente o instrumento Hurt Insult Threatened Scream (HITS) para a Língua Portuguesa para rastreamento de violência doméstica contra idosos. Para tanto, fez-se necessário a utilização de critérios metodológicos rigorosos no intuito de viabilizar uma ampla confiabilidade e posteriormente ser aplicado e utilizado por outros pesquisadores para rastreio da violência doméstica contra o idoso. O estudo foi desenvolvido em cinco etapas para atender as exigências semântica, idiomática, experimental e conceitual que são amplamente utilizadas por outros pesquisadores. Nas primeiras etapas desenvolvidas - tradução inicial, síntese das traduções, retrotradução -, foram produzidas duas versões de escalas, uma por um tradutor com habilitação na língua inglesa e outra por um profissional de saúde. Essas versões foram utilizadas na quarta etapa, que se refere a elaboração final da escala, que foi submetida a avaliação por um comitê dos juízes para atender critérios específicos e relevantes a temática do estudo. Por último, na quinta etapa, foi realizado um pré-teste da escala com 30 idosos. Os dados foram analisados usando o Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) com base na estatística descritiva. Além da versão final, foi aplicado um instrumento para caracterização sócio-demográfica e a Prova Cognitiva de Leganés. De acordo com as análises realizadas pela comissão, dois itens mereceram ser readequados, pois apresentaram baixa compatibilidade com relação às equivalências observadas. Como resultado final, apresentou-se o instrumento HITS-Brasil adaptado para o contexto brasileiro.

Este estudo visa avaliar as propriedades psicométricas (validade e confiabilidade) do instrumento Hurt Insult Threatened Scream (HITS) para o rastreio da violência doméstica contra idosos. Participaram desta amostra 48 idosos e para análise dos resultados foi utilizado a estatística descritiva e inferencial. A confiabilidade foi testada através da mensuração da concordância intra-observador e consistência interna. A concordância intra-observador foi verificada nos itens do HITS Brasil e na pontuação total pelo Coeficiente de Correlação Intraclasse (CCI), sendo adotada a seguinte classificação: CCI<0,40, concordância fraca; 0,41<CCI<0,75, concordância moderada; e CCI>0,75, alta concordância. A consistência interna, foi avaliada pelo alfa de Cronbach. Foi calculada a correlação item-total do HITS Brasil, sendo o escore superior a 0,4 considerado satisfatório. Verificou-se que a média de idade dos idosos foi de idosos foi de 72±6,3 anos, sendo do sexo Feminino (83%) da cor branca (63%), o principal agente da violência foi o cônjuge (30%), seguido dos filhos(as) (13%). Verificou-se que a maioria dos participantes optaram pela estratégia de cores 80% para melhor dimensionar a frequência da violência. Os valores obtidos através do Coeficiente do alfa de Cronbach para cada item demonstram resultados satisfatórios (item 1: 0,80; item 2: 0,75; item 3: 0,80; e item 4: 0,68). Em sua versão final, a HITS apresentou quatro itens e manteve características da versão original, na análise da consistência interna o instrumento apresentou resultados altos, mostrando ser um instrumento válido e confiável para o uso na cultura brasileira.

Background: Fatigue corresponds to a non-motor symptom of high prevalence in Parkinson’s disease (PD) affecting about one thirdof patients with the disease. This symptom negatively affects daily activities, contributing to the deterioration of the quality of life ofthese subjects. Objectives: To estimate fatigue in PD and to correlate with demographic characteristics, sleep, disease stage, motorfunction and daily activities. Methods: The sample consisted of patients with PD. The following measuring instruments were used for thestudy:Hoehn and Yahr scale, Fatigue Rating Scale, Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale, Parkinson’s Disease Sleep Scale. Results: Thisstudy highlights the high prevalence of fatigue in subjects with PD, and the screening and treatment of this symptom is extremelyrelevant in clinical practice. There were no significant correlations between fatigue and other variables analyzed. Conclusions: Mostparticipants reported fatigue as a relevant problem, so it is important the use of instruments for fatigue screening in clinical practiceand the need to develop therapies related to this symptom in the PD.

Purpose: compare the association between performance during the execution of dual tasks with cognitive function, mobility and clinical aspects and to present a proposal for a dual task evaluation on postural control in elderly participants. Materials and methods: Study cross-sectional. The participants were allocated into groups: healthy elderly group, individuals in the mild cognitive impairment group and individuals with Parkinson's disease. Motor evaluation was performed through the Foot Eight Walking and Timed Up and Go tests. Results: The Mild Cognitive Impairment Group presented a greater increase in time during the cognitive and motor tasks in Foot Eight Walking. For the cognitive Timed Up and Go, the Mild Cognitive Impairment Group presented longer times than the other groups, whereas the motor and simple Timed Up and Go required a longer time by the Parkinson's Disease Group. Conclusions: The nonrectilinear lane mobility test was useful as an evaluation method for the elderly participants and the strong correlation with already established mobility instruments is also highlighted.

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) was initially described as a movement disorder, however there is now recognition that its clinical features also include non-motor symptoms such as cognitive impairment and dementia, which are frequent even in the early stages of the disease and, especially in the advanced stages. Cognitive deficits in PD include impairments in executive functions, attention, memory, and visuospatial skills. Cognitive impairment may manifest as mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia, in which MCI refers to the stage between normal cognitive functioning and dementia. Factors associated with cognitive dysfunction in PD include advanced age, low schooling, worse motor scores, stiffness, postural instability and increased daytime sleepiness. Objective: To track cognitive decline and to correlate measurement instruments in subjects with PD by comparing them to healthy subjects. Methods: Study conducted at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Trairi / UFRN. The sample consisted of 20 old people (10 healthy elderlies and 10 elderlies with PD). It was applied the socio-demographic record, Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS II and III), Hoehn & Yahr Scale, Mini Mental State Examination, Leganés Cognitive Test (LCT) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Results: It was observed cognitive decline in both groups by MoCA (90% of the PD group and 80% of the healthy group), with no statistically significant difference (p=0.10). It was also verified association between UPDRS II and LCT (r= -0.69, p=0.03) and between UPDRS III and LCT (r=-0.66, p=0.04). Conclusion: We found a cognitive deficit in the elderly group with PD, with no significant difference when compared to the healthy elderly. There was an association between motor and cognitive function in subjects with PD. MoCA was more sensitive in the screening of cognitive deficit in subjects with PD.
