Endometriosis is found predominantly in women of childbearing age. The prevalence of endometriosis is difficult to determine accurately. Laparoscopy or surgery is required for the definitive diagnosis. The most common symptoms are dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and low back pain that worsen during menses. Endometriosis occurring shortly after menarche has been frequently reported. Endometriosis has been described in a few cases at the umbilicus, even without prior history of abdominal surgery. It has been described in various atypical sites such as the fallopian tubes, bowel, liver, thorax, and even in the extremities. The most commonly affected areas in decreasing order of frequency in the gastrointestinal tract are the recto-sigmoid colon, appendix, cecum, and distal ileum. The prevalence of appendiceal endometriosis is 2.8%. Malignant transformation is a well-described, although rare (<1% of cases), complication of endometriosis. Approximately 75% of these tumors arise from endometriosis of the ovary. Other less common sites include the rectovaginal septum, rectum, and sigmoid colon. Unopposed estrogens therapy may play a role in the development of such tumors. A more recent survey of 27 malignancies associated with endometriosis found that 17 (62%) were in the ovary, 3 (11%) in the vagina, 2 (7%) each in the fallopian tube or mesosalpinx, pelvic sidewall, and colon, and 1 (4%) in the parametrium. Two cases of cerebral endometriosis and a case of endometriosis presenting as a cystic mass in the cerebellar vermis has been described. Treatment for endometriosis can be expectant, medical, or surgical depending on the severity of symptoms and the patient's desire to maintain or restore fertility.

Objective:The aim of this study was to examine the clinical and radiographic presentation of fibrous dysplasia through an 8-year retrospective study in patients who reported to the outpatient unit of the Kothiwal Dental College and Research Centre, Moradabad.Materials and Methods:The clinical file records and radiographs of the patients who reported to the outpatient clinic in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology were retrospectively reviewed for histopathologically diagnosed fibrous dysplasia. A detailed analysis of the clinical and radiographic features of the 14 cases retrieved was carried out.Results:Almost all the patients presented with a complaint of swelling on the side of the face. The maxilla was more frequently involved than the mandible. The most common radiographic pattern observed was the ground-glass appearance, followed by orange peel, cotton wool, sunray and thumb print appearance, which leads to a perplex differential diagnosis.Conclusion:Awareness of the versatile features of fibrous dysplasia evident through this study is essential in the accurate diagnosis and proper treatment planning of such lesions.

Background Most observational population-based studies identify RSV by nasal/nasopharyngeal swab RT-PCR only. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analyses to quantify specimen and diagnostic testing-based under-ascertainment of adult RSV infection. Methods EMBASE, PubMed and Web of Science were searched (Jan2000–Dec2021) for studies including adults using/comparing &gt;1 RSV testing approach. We quantified test performance and RSV detection increase associated with using multiple specimen types. Results Among 8066 references identified, 154 met inclusion. Compared to RT-PCR, other methods were less sensitive: rapid antigen detection (pooled sensitivity, 64%), direct fluorescent antibody (83%), and viral culture (86%). Compared to singleplex PCR, multiplex PCR’s sensitivity was lower (93%). Compared to nasal/nasopharyngeal swab RT-PCR alone, adding another specimen type increased detection: sputum RT-PCR, 52%; 4-fold rise in paired serology, 44%; and oropharyngeal swab RT-PCR, 28%. Sensitivity was lower in estimates limited to only adults (for RADT, DFA and Viral culture), and detection rate increases were largely comparable. Conclusions RT-PCR, particularly singleplex testing, is the most sensitive RSV diagnostic test in adults. Adding additional specimen types to nasopharyngeal swab RT-PCR testing increased RSV detection. Synergistic effects of using ≥3 specimen types should be assessed, as this approach may improve the accuracy of adult RSV burden estimates.

A poorly fitted prosthesis can give rise to a plethora of problems like pain, discomfort in mastication and speech and epulis fissuratum. Epulis fissuratum refers to reactive tissue response to excessive mechanical pressure imparted by the poor fit of prosthesis. In this article, we discuss a case of epulis fissuratum in a 69-year-old male patient.
