Background and Study Aim. The social change brought about by the pandemic process all over the world has led to the restructuring of human behavior and daily life practices. This process has brought with it some social-psychological problems (such as alienation and social anhedonia) for social segments. For this reason, the aim of the research is to examine the alienation and social anhedonia levels of the students studying at the faculty of sport sciences during the pandemic process. Material and Methods. The sample of the research consists of students studying at the faculties of sport sciences of different universities in Turkey. A total of 423 students (271 males, 152 females) participated in the study. Due to the normal distribution of the data, the t-test, one of the parametric tests, was performed for paired groups, and the relationship between Social Anhedonia Scale and Alienation Scale sub-dimensions was tested with Pearson correlation analysis. Statistical analyzes were performed with the “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences” commercial software (SPSS for Windows, version 26.0, SPSS). The significance level was determined as p<0.05 in the analyzes, and skewness and kurtosis values were considered for the normality analysis. Results. According to the results obtained, it can be said that the pandemic process negatively affected the social anhedonia and alienation levels of male students studying at the faculty of sport sciences compared to female students. Again, it is seen that the level of alienation of the students who do sports at the professional level is higher than the students who do sports at the amateur level. Similarly, it is seen that the students of the faculty of sport sciences dealing with team sports have higher levels of social isolation, which is one of the sub-dimensions of the alienation scale, compared to the students who are engaged in individual sports. Finally, there is a negative and low-level significant relationship between social anhedonia and alienation scale sub-dimensions (p<0.05; r=-0.187; r=-0.164; r=-132). Conclusions. As a result, it can be said that the pandemic process has had similar negative effects on the students studying in the faculties of sport sciences, as in other social segments.
This study was carried out to examine athletes' mathematical thinking levels who do individual and team sports in different variables. The study was conducted with a relational screening model, which is one of the general screening models. The data were collected by a survey method. "Mathematical Thinking Scale" was used to determine the mathematical thinking levels of athletes. The research population was composed of licensed athletes studying in high schools and universities in the 2020-2021 academic year in Turkey, while 459 licensed athletes determined among these students by a simple random method made up the sample group. The Independent-Samples T-Test was applied to determine the differences between the participants' gender, education and branch variables, and their mathematical thinking level. The Pearson Correlation test was applied to determine the relationship between age, sports year, and mathematical thinking levels. As a result of the analysis, a significant difference was observed favouring female participants in the gender variable and mathematical thinking skills sub-dimension. Additionally, it was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between the sports year and the reasoning sub-dimension. As a result, it is thought that the more inclusion of individual or team sports types in education programs will contribute to an individual's mathematics and academic success.
The aim of this study was to determine the role of environmental concern in mediating the relationship between outdoor athletes' personal environmental norms and their intention to purchase green products. Method:In the study, The Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used. The study group of the research consisted of licensed outdoor athletes (n=396) in Turkey. The SPSS 25.0 software program was used for the descriptive data, and the AMOS 24.0 software program was used for the confirmatory factor analysis and structural model test. Results:The results of the analysis revealed that the outdoor athletes' personal environmental norms had a positive effect on their environmental concerns and intention to purchase green products. That is, the outdoor athletes' personal environmental norms increased their environmental concerns and green purchase intention. Moreover, it was seen that the outdoor athletes' environmental concerns had a positive effect on their green purchase intention and that they had a significant role in mediating the relationship between personal environmental norms and green purchase intention. Theoretical contributions:In conclusion, it is thought that outdoor sports can be used as a mean of strengthening consumers' personal environmental norms and environmental concerns in order to encourage green consumption.Originality: Among the sample groups of studies conducted on the subject of green consumption, the fact that no study can be found that examines consumption behaviours of outdoor athletes, who represent the assumption that since they do outdoor sports, they can be closely involved with the natural environment, makes it important to determine outdoor athletes' green purchase intentions. Therefore, the current study differs in this respect from other conducted studies.
