Despite the existence of modern antidiabetic medications, diabetes still affects millions of individuals worldwide, with a high death and disability rate. There has been a concerted search for alternative natural medicinal agents; luteolin (LUT), a polyphenolic molecule, might be a good choice, both because of its efficacy and because of it having fewer side effects, compared to conventional medicines. This study aims to explore the antidiabetic potential of LUT in diabetic rats, induced by streptozotocin (STZ; 50 mg/kg b.w.), intraperitoneally. The level of blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), body weight, glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), lipidemic status, antioxidant enzymes, and cytokines were assessed. Also, its action mechanism was explored through molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. Oral supplementation of LUT for 21 days resulted in a significant decrease in the blood glucose, oxidative stress, and proinflammatory cytokine levels, and modulated the hyperlipidemia profile. LUT also ameliorated the tested biomarkers of liver and kidney function. In addition, LUT markedly reversed the damage to the pancreas, liver, and kidney cells. Moreover, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations revealed excellent antidiabetic behavior of LUT. In conclusion, the current investigation revealed that LUT possesses antidiabetic activity, through the reversing of hyperlipidemia, oxidative stress, and proinflammatory status in diabetic groups. Therefore, LUT might be a good remedy for the management or treatment of diabetes.

Power dispatch has become an important issue due to the high integration of Wind Power (WP) in power grids. Within this context, this paper presents a new Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based strategy for solving the stochastic Economic Emission Dispatch Problem (EEDP). This problem was solved considering several constraints such as power balance, generation limits, and Valve Point Loading Effects (VPLEs). The power balance constraint is described by a chance constraint to consider the impact of WP intermittency on the EEDP solution. In this study, the chance constraint represents the tolerance that the power balance constraint cannot meet. The suggested framework was successfully evaluated on a ten-unit system. The problem was solved for various threshold tolerances to study further the impact of WP penetration.

Small organic molecules with interesting optical and electrochemical properties find applications as organic luminescent materials. In this work, we report the synthesis of novel chalcones with D−A−D and D−A−D−A architecture, followed by their optical, electrochemical, and computational studies. The absorption band of these compounds occurs at 360−480 nm with emission maxima appearing around 513−552 nm. The large Stokes shifts (Δλ) for all compounds (90−132 nm) suggest intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) in the excited states. The molar absorptivity and fluorescence quantum yields were found to be in the range of 1.7−4.26 × 10 4 M −1 cm −1 and 0.29−0.39, respectively. The electrochemical parameters were determined by using cyclic voltammetry (CV). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of all compounds were made by using B3LYP/G (d,p) functionals in chloroform and were found to have a good correlation with experimental results. Preliminary studies of absorption, photoluminescence, CV, and their theoretical correlation suggest that these compounds may be optimized for their applications in optoelectronics, sensing, and bioimaging.

Background: Celiac serology can be transiently elevated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and normalized despite gluten consumption. This study aimed to identify the frequency and predictive factors of spontaneous normalization of anti-tissue transglutaminase (anti-TTG-IgA) antibodies in these patients. Methods: The charts of all patients (≤18 years) with T1DM were retrospectively reviewed from 2012 to 2021 at a tertiary care center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The following data were collected: clinical characteristics of the participants, anti-TTG-IgA-immunoglobulin (Ig) A antibody, and histological findings. The outcome of positive anti-TTG-IgA-IgA in patients with T1DM and the predictive factors for spontaneous normalization were investigated. Results: Of the 1,006 patients with T1DM, 138 (13.7%) had elevated anti-TTG-IgA antibodies, celiac disease was diagnosed in 58/138 (42%) patients, spontaneous normalization of anti-TTG-IgA was observed in 65 (47.1%) patients, and fluctuating anti-TTG-IgA antibodies were seen in 15 (10.9%) patients. The patients with anti-TTG-IgA levels at 3–10 times the upper normal limits (UNL), and those with levels ≥10 times UNL were less likely to have spontaneous normalization of anti-TTG-IgA compared to patients with levels at 1–3 times UNL (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.28, 95% confidence interval [Cl] = 0.13–0.61, P = 0.001, and HR = 0.03, 95% Cl = 0.00–0.19, P < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Asymptomatic patients with T1DM with mild elevation of anti-TTG-IgA need not be rushed for invasive endoscopy or exposed to an un-needed gluten-free diet but should rather have a regular follow-up of their celiac serology.
