Las investigaciones con foco en escuelas y desarrollo comuntario promueven un liderazgo basado en la comunidad cuya finalidad es generar alianzas entre los establecimientos, las familias y comunidades. Respondiendo críticamente a las actuales reformas educativas y cambios en los roles directivos y de liderazgo, centradas mayormente en aspectos intraorganizacionales e instruccionales, los autores afines a este enfoque, identifican casos de programas externos o experiencias autogestionadas en que el ejercicio del liderazgo escolar está enfocado en generar relaciones, prácticas e impactos tanto intra como extraescolares. En este artículo, mediante una revisión y lectura sistemática de 25 publicaciones de formato digital, se ahonda en las principales características de este tipo de iniciativas, con énfasis en su finalidad y efectos. Se constata que las alianzas entre escuelas-familia-comunidad pueden pretender influir positivamente en metas escolares específicas, en objetivos educativos más amplios o en las comunidades, siempre bajo el supuesto que el involucramiento de las personas y recursos del entorno pueden ayudar al desarrollo integral de los estudiantes, particularmente aquellos que se encuentran en posiciones desaventajadas dentro de los sistemas educativos. En cuanto a los efectos de este tipo de alianzas, se diagnostica que los resultados son alentadores en cuanto a la positiva percepción por parte de los involucrados, pero incipientes en relación a indicadores educativos específicos, presentándose una oportunidad para futuros investigadores.
El presente artículo tiene por finalidad esclarecer algunas de las características más relevantes de los estudios de caso único en el marco de la investigación social y organizacional. Particularmente, se contribuye a la individualización de este tipo de estudios en relación con los estudios de caso en general y a la identificación y descripción de aspectos epistemológicos, tales como su potencial de generalización y prescripción y metodológicos claves, específicamente los criterios de rigor. Para lograr este propósito se realizó una revisión bibliográfica en la base de datos Web of Sciences, seleccionándose 32 artículos de carácter metodológico, incorporando referencias a los manuales tradicionales sobre estudio de caso en los hallazgos. La finalidad es contribuir a una puesta en común de algunos criterios elementales sobre los estudios de caso que permitan a los investigadores utilizarla en sus marcos metodológicos y alimentar nuevos análisis y debates sobre la materia.
