W październiku 2020 roku wyrok Trybunału Konstytucyjnego, znacząco ograniczający możliwość wykonywania legalnej aborcji w Polsce, wywołał masowe protesty w całym kraju. Do demonstracji przyłączyło się wielu pobożnych katolików, mimo że były one skierowane nie tylko przeciwko rządowi, ale i Kościołowi katolickiemu, popierającemu zmiany w prawie. Odpowiadają one bowiem jego oficjalnemu stanowisku wobec planowania rodziny.
Bazując na badaniach archiwalnych i etnograficznych, w poniższej pracy przyglądamy się szeregowi kwestii związanych z katolicyzmem i aborcją: jak to możliwe, że tak wiele katoliczek zdecydowało się wciąż udział w protestach otwarcie sprzeciwiających się katolickiej nauce na temat kontroli urodzeń? Jakie były ich motywacje?
Dla młodych ludzi w latach 80. w Warszawie moda była ważnym elementem życia społecznego, który wpływał na ich samopoczucie i pozycje społeczną. W latach kryzysu młodzież musiała jednak wykazać się dużą zaradnością, aby stworzyć wymarzony styl. Artykuł skupia się na przedstawieniu konkretnych praktyk związanych z ubieraniem się, np. szycie, przeróbki, wymiana ubrań z koleżankami czy wyjazdy zagraniczne. Odwołując się do pojęć „strategii” i „taktyk” Michela de Certeau, pokazane zostało, w jaki sposób młodzież zdobywała ubrania, które nie były dostępne w państwowych sklepach. Istotnym kapitałem była wiedza, która umożliwiała zdobycie wymarzonych ubrań i stworzenie własnego stylu, który bazował na guście. Pierre Bourdieu łączy to pojęcie z habitusem, który określa co wydaje się jednostce realne i możliwe do wprowadzenia we własnym życiu. Na habitus składają się normy narzucone przez otoczenie, które jednostka uznaje za własne.
