W październiku 2020 roku wyrok Trybunału Konstytucyjnego, znacząco ograniczający możliwość wykonywania legalnej aborcji w Polsce, wywołał masowe protesty w całym kraju. Do demonstracji przyłączyło się wielu pobożnych katolików, mimo że były one skierowane nie tylko przeciwko rządowi, ale i Kościołowi katolickiemu, popierającemu zmiany w prawie. Odpowiadają one bowiem jego oficjalnemu stanowisku wobec planowania rodziny. Bazując na badaniach archiwalnych i etnograficznych, w poniższej pracy przyglądamy się szeregowi kwestii związanych z katolicyzmem i aborcją: jak to możliwe, że tak wiele katoliczek zdecydowało się wciąż udział w protestach otwarcie sprzeciwiających się katolickiej nauce na temat kontroli urodzeń? Jakie były ich motywacje?
Bazując na etnograficznych badaniach terenowe przeprowadzonych wśród społeczności polskiej w Paryżu, odpowiadam na pytanie, dlaczego wykształcone Polki z klasy średniej skutecznie przekazują język polski swoim dzieciom. Zwracam uwagę, że członkowie społeczności polskiej we Francji nie zawsze uczyli dzieci polskiego i analizuję czynniki, które doprowadziły do utrwalenia się normy przekazywania języka w badanej grupie. Zgromadzony materiał przedstawiam w kontekście francuskiej historii imigracji i mniejszości, w którą wpisuje się historia polskiej imigracji do Francji. W szczególności, pokazuję, że społeczność polska skorzystała na osiągnięciach ruchów społecznych, które miały miejsce w latach osiemdziesiątych i były zainicjowane przez młodzież wywodzącą się z krajów Maghrebu. Analizuję także wpływ, jaki na kształtowanie praktyk językowych moich rozmówczyń wpływają dyskursy narodowe oraz eksperckie. Przyglądam się temu, w jaki sposób skonstruowany jest dyskurs ekspercki na temat dwujęzyczności i pokazuję, że posługiwanie się nim może stanowić strategię oporu wobec polityk asymilacyjnych państwa francuskiego. Zwracam także uwagę, jaki wpływ na opisywane zjawiska ma sytuacja moich rozmówczyń na francuskim rynku pracy.
