With the aim of clarifying certain contradictory aspects of the description of the venous drainage of the pancreas, a review of the literature and an anatomic study were carried out. Fifty duodeno-pancreatic blocks were studied by the injection-corrosion technique, of which 45 were available for study of the right pancreas and 37 for that of the left pancreas. The venous drainage of the duodeno-pancreas is effected via two territories: a posterosuperior and an anteroinferior, the former draining toward the portal v. and the second into the superior mesenteric v. The borderline between the two is represented by the inferior posterior pancreatico-duodenal (IPPD) v. Four veins ensure duodeno-pancreatic drainage: the superior anterior, inferior anterior, superior posterior and inferior posterior pancreatico-duodenal vv. (SAPD, IAPD, SPPD and IPPD). The major vein of the ventral aspect is the SAPD; that of the dorsal aspect is the SPPD. Two arches, anterior and posterior, were found in the majority of cases. The left pancreas drains into the splenic v. via several collateral branches. Other veins participate in the venous drainage of the isthmus, body and tail of the pancreas, including the inferior or transverse pancreatic v.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the oocytes, post-fertilization events and embryonic development in Brycon insignis, under both scanning electron microscopy and stereomicroscopy. Oocytes and embryos were sampled from spawning up to hatching. Stripped oocytes were spherical, non-adhesive, greenish-brown, possessed a single micropyle, pore-canals and had a mean diameter of 1.46 mm. In 63% of oocytes the germinal vesicle was peripheric. The main post-fertilization events were the fertilization cone formation (20 s), micropyle closure (100-180 s) and agglutination of supernumerary spermatozoa (100-180 s). Embryonic development lasted 30 h at ~24 °C and was characterized by seven stages. Zygote, cleavage, blastula and gastrula stages were first observed at 0.25, 1, 3 and 6 h post-fertilization, respectively. Fertilization rate was determined at the moment of blastopore closure, 10-11 h post-fertilization. The segmentation stage began at 11 h post-fertilization and comprised the development of somites, notochord, optic, otic and Kupffer's vesicles, neural tube, primitive intestine, and development and release of the tail. The larval stage began 21 h post-fertilization and was characterized by the presence of somites, growth and elongation of the larvae. At the hatching stage, embryos presented vigorous contractions of the tail and body leading to chorion rupture (30 h). The morphological characteristics described for B. insignis were similar to that described for other teleost species, and such knowledge is important for a better understanding of reproductive features of a species and useful for ecological and conservational studies.
This study aimed to evaluate weight and morphometric growth of the products of the complete diallel cross-breeding between pacu and tambaqui during the period from the end of spring to the beginning of winter. Was used 400 pacu, tambaqui, tambacu and paqui. 20 fish from each group were collected, weighed and submitted to morphometric evaluation every 28 days. The Logistic function adjusted better to describe the growth in body weight and the morphometric measures for age on all the genetic groups. The studied groups presented similar behavior of growth for body weight and morphometric measures. There were significant differences between the genetic groups regarding parameters A (asymptotic value) and B (integration constant) for body weight and for all the morphometric measures evaluated. For the parameter K (maturity rate), there were significant difference between groups for body weight, head length and body height. The groups possibly were affected the decrease of temperature. The Tambacu was superior to the Paqui in all the variables evaluated for the parameter A, and was also superior to the pure breed, except for head length and body width.
With the purpose of evaluating the changes and the degree of heterosis on performance and carcass traits of fish from the diallel crossing between Pacu and Tambaqui, four genetic groups were generated through hormonal induction: pacu, tambaqui, tambacu and paqui. For 196 days, 400 juveniles of each genetic group were stocked in a pond divided into four parts of equal size, one for each group. At the end of this period, when the fish weighed on average 1024 g (±115.52 g), 20 specimens of each genetic group were sampled, weighed, measured: head length; standard length; body height; and width; and also processed resulting in following body yield: viscera; carcass; head; fillet; rib; residue and skin yields. There was positive heterosis for body weight, viscera and skin yield and head measures and negative heterosis for carcass and filet yield and body width, indicating that the hybrids have better performance on weight gain, but are inferior in relation to the carcass conformation
