Resumo. A desigualdade de gênerosé um assunto que vêm ganhando notoriedade naś ultimas décadas e tem sido alvo de grandes discussões, principalmente após os movimentos feministas. OÍndice de Desigualdade de Gêneros (IDG) mostra a perda de potencial no desenvolvimento humano devidoà desigualdade entre realizações femininas e masculinas em diversas dimensões sociais. A igualdade de gênero contribui para a eficiência econômica e a obtenção de outros resultados essenciais de desenvolvimento, tendo assim uma influência no progresso sócio-econômico de um país. Dessa forma, a desigualdade de gêneros continua sendo uma barreira para o desenvolvimento humano. Sendo assim, nesse estudo, foi realizada uma análise de regressão para avaliar quais os principais fatores contribuintes para essa desigualdade. Para tanto, uma amostra de 160 países, disponíveis no United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), foi coletada. Por meio da análise de regressão linear, foi possível concluir que os fatores sociais que influenciam no IDG são: posição de cada país no ranking doÍndice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH), taxa de natalidade adolescente e a razão entre a taxa de participação da mulher na força de trabalho pela taxa de participação do homem na força de trabalho. Os resultados obtidos podem auxiliar no planejamento e controle das ações públicas sobre desigualdade de gêneros, tornando a desigualdade menor, visto que estaé uma questão que necessita da intervenção de políticas públicas para superar as desvantagens sistemáticas das mulheres.
