Objetivo: Esse artigo buscou investigar os impactos da pandemia provocada pela Covid-19 no ensino de matemática na baixada fluminense. Métodos: Foram realizadas 30 entrevistas em profundidade do tipo semiestruturadas com professores que lecionaram antes e durante a pandemia na mesma instituição de ensino. Resultados: Observou-se que apesar dos colégios públicos e privados aderirem ao ensino digital, o desempenho escolar não foi o mesmo. As maiores dificuldades enfrentadas pelos professores foram a falta de suporte técnico com as novas tecnologias, o formato das aulas e a divisão do ambiente doméstico com o trabalho. Os alunos de maneira geral, se mostraram dispersos e sem rotina, além de muitos não disporem de infraestrutura adequada para a participação das aulas. Notaram-se relatos de ansiedade em relação às atividades no presencial e ao conhecimento adquirido para seguir nas próximas etapas de ensino. Os professores que retornaram ao ensino presencial observaram alunos mais agressivos. Conclusão: Constatou-se que a pandemia modificou não apenas o ritmo dos estudos e a qualidade da aprendizagem, mas também foi imposta uma drástica mudança na didática dos professores em curtíssimo prazo.
