-In this study, conventionally stained, C-and Ag-NOR banded karyotypes of Dahl's jird, Meriones dahli, were reported from Turkey. The species had a karyotype of 2n = 50, NFa = 74 and NF = 78. The X and Y chromosomes were submetacentrics in all specimens examined. Blocks of constitutive heterochromatin were located in the pericentromeric areas of autosomes including the X and Y chromosomes. Interstitial C-bands are also detected in the long arms of one of the largest acrocentric pairs. Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) were located at the telomeric regions of the short arms of three submetacentrics and two acrocentrics.
Analysis of nestling food in four species of Parus and one species of Ficedula using the ‘Halsringmethode’ showed a high quota of adults and caterpillars of the important forest pests: Tortrix viridana, Euproctis chrysorrhoea, Diprion pini, and Lymantria dispar. These four major pest species amounted in the nestling food of Parus major to 50 %, P. coeruleus to 52.6 %, P. ater to 40.9 %, and Ficedula hypoleuca to 30.2 %.
This increase may also, at least partially, be a result of the global increase in mean environmental temperatures (Root et al., 2003). The recent expansion of wild boar populations in Europe has stimulated studies of their genetic diversity and structure in order to develop adequate management strategies (Veličković et al., 2014). The increase of wild boar populations has been registered in hunting areas and rural areas in Turkish Thrace and Anatolia, as well. This has led to substantial damage to agricultural crops and forestry, and even problems in urban habitats. As a result, effective management strategies for wild boars are necessary, as this species is considered to be a pest in many parts of the world (Bieber and Ruf, 2005; Scandura et al., 2011; Hajji and Zachos, 2011). Corbet (1978) stated that many races of Sus scrofa in the Palearctic were named based on differences in size and color; however, these subpopulations were never shown to have discrete boundaries. To date, 16 different subspecies have been recognized worldwide, including four geographical groups (Western, Indian, Eastern, and
In this study, accessible publications on Turkish carnivores up to date were compiled. They were inciuded into three groups selected according to three main topics, namely taxonoıny and distribution, ecology, and other biological features.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
