Karyotypic studies ofMeriones dahliShidlovsky, 1962 (Rodentia: Muridae) from Turkey

Abstract: -In this study, conventionally stained, C-and Ag-NOR banded karyotypes of Dahl's jird, Meriones dahli, were reported from Turkey. The species had a karyotype of 2n = 50, NFa = 74 and NF = 78. The X and Y chromosomes were submetacentrics in all specimens examined. Blocks of constitutive heterochromatin were located in the pericentromeric areas of autosomes including the X and Y chromosomes. Interstitial C-bands are also detected in the long arms of one of the largest acrocentric pairs. Nucleolar organizer regio… Show more

“…The Y chromosome was reported as acrocentric in some of populations of M. meridianus from eastern Europe (Korobitsyna 1974). The standard karyotype was described from Turkey by Yiğit et al (1997bYiğit et al ( , 1998c) (under the name M. meridianus) and Aşan Baydemir et al (2011b). Interstitial dark C-bands were observed in the long arm of one of the large acrocentric autosomal pairs.…”

“…Tympanic bullae are of medium size, and the bony tube of the ear canal touches the zygomatic arch (Pavlinov et al, 1990). The karyotype has a diploid set of 50 chromosomes, the number of shoulders is 78 (Korobitsyna and Kartavtseva, 1984;Baydemir et al, 2011).…”
