PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore an empirical investigation of the linkage between total productive maintenance (TPM), people management (PEM) and organizational performance in the apparel industry of Bangladesh. This study also explores the direct and mediating effect of TPM on organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachEmpirical data were collected using a close-ended structured questionnaire from 227 small, medium and large-scale garment manufacturing industries. The causal relationships between PEM, TPM and organizational performance were examined using structural equation modeling.FindingsThe findings of this study have provided significant evidence that the PEM has both direct and indirect impact (through TPM) on organizational performance. The results of the analysis also indicated that TPM has direct and mediating effects on operational performance.Research limitations/implicationsData for measuring PEM practices and organizational performance were collected from the same source, assuming that PEM practices are uniform across the organization. Therefore, response bias is not unexpected.Originality/valueThis study explores the interdimensional linkage between PEM, TPM and organizational performance and argues based on the empirical data in the context of the apparel industry in Bangladesh. The apparel industry is a complex manufacturing system synchronizing man, machine and material. The findings provide empirical evidence that employee engagement and practice of TPM will enhance the operational performance of the apparel industries.
This paper summarizes the impact of challenges within the scientific discussion on the issue of female entrepreneurship in Malaysia. In 67 countries of the world, approximately 126 millions of women have started a new business, and 98 millions of women are developing the already established businesses starting from 2012. However, the proportion of female entrepreneurs in general ranges from 1% to 40% in different countries around the world depending on the economic development, so the impact of women entrepreneurship on innovation and job creation is especially significant for developing countries, in particular for Malaysia. Throughout Malaysia's economic reforms, the small and medium business has played an important role in the growth of the economy of this country, the total number of Malaysian entrepreneurs is steadily increasing, and the government is implementing a significant number of entrepreneurship initiatives, although the number of women entrepreneurs in Malaysia is still lower than that of men entrepreneurs. The basis of the study was a highly structured method of deductionthe theoretical generalizations and the systematization of scientific developments of the researchers from different countries of the world formed the basis for the development of the hypothesis, and empirical studies were aimed at testing this hypothesis, explaining the causal relationships between the variables. The data for this study have been collected from a sample of 300 respondents, of which 120 are men, and 180 are women. The results of an empirical analysis of the survey data allowed to distinguish four main categories of factors that slow down the development of female entrepreneurship in Malaysia, namely resource, personal, economic, political, and cultural. Through the use of the regression analysis, the effect of all these factors (independent variables) on the growth of value added from the business carried out by the female entrepreneurs (dependent variable) was investigated in the article. The calculations showed that the correlation coefficient is 0.79, and the determination coefficient is 0.62. Testing the model for adequacy with t-statistics and p-value showed the significant impact of independent variables on the dependent one, which allows us to consider the proposed hypothesis to be confirmed. The results of the research can be useful for government officials, local authorities and entrepreneurs, not only in Malaysia but also in other countries.
This research intends to propose a conceptual framework that will investigate the impacts of internet banking needs, compatibility, convenience, and communication on customer adaptation to Internet Banking in the context of private commercial banks of Bangladesh. To test the framework, correlation and regression techniques have been applied to data collected from 187 customers of private commercial banks of Bangladesh. The results of the study indicate that importance of internet banking needs, compatibility, convenience, and communication are significantly and positively related to the dependent variable. The findings of this study suggest that in order to attract more users to internet banking, it is not going to be enough only to introduce an internet banking system, these private commercial banks need to develop the belief of usefulness of the system among their users. The importance of internet banking needs and the ease of using it should be acknowledged by demonstration on trial basis. Limitations and implications for practicing managers and for future research are also discussed.
Shaping the behavior of the employees determines one of the crucial duties of the organizations. Mobilizing power and getting commitment from individuals is the foundation for effective organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). This research aims to focus on the key factors influencing OCB in the banking industry in Bangladesh. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. A questionnaire survey was used to collect data from different banks operating in Bangladesh. The result reveals that critical aspects of social power, e.g., reward, legitimate, expert, and referent power, confirm their influence on organizational commitment (OC). In contrast, coercive power fails to connect with OC towards OCB. However, this paper also successfully brings them together to describe their linkage through mediation by OC and to quantify the relationship. Furthermore, similar research can be extended to banks operating in other developing countries having the same economic status.
