Abstractlntoxication occurence by Pithomyces chaHarum is registred in ovine herds of "Santa Inês" breed in pasture of Brachiaria decumbens in Gravatá City -PE, with the following clinical-pathological finds: anorexia, apathy, jaundice, palpebral and auricular edema, cornea opacity, ocular purulent exudation, inner auricular dermatitis, fever, dehydration, liver region increased and sensible, coagulation time reduction, decubitus and death; hypochromic and normochromic anaemia, invertion of the relation neutrocyte-lymphocyte; increase of Aspartate-aminotransferase and Gamma Glutamyl Transferase, total conjuged and nonconjuged bilirubin rise, as well as hemoglobinuria. At the necropsy was observed generalized icterus and increased liver; intestinal congestion; spleen discreetely enlarged and congested. Conidia of the aforesaid fungus were identified, which toxin were responsable for the heatogenous photosensitization lesions in ovine with black coat and skin.

Lymphatic malformations have been rarely reported in literature either in humans or in animals. However, in recent years, concern about these malformations in humans has increased. A five-month-old Rasa Aragonesa male lamb was received at the Ovine Clinical Service of the Veterinary Faculty of Zaragoza, Spain, with a history of cervical protuberances coming from birth. The lamb showed three round swollen lumps (5-12 cm in diameter) parallel to the trachea on the left side of the neck. Clinical examination, haematology, ultrasonography, fluid examination and histopathology were performed. No abnormalities were found in blood samples and ultrasound confirmed a multicystic lesion with internal separations. Histological evaluation of the tissue revealed dilated lymphatic vessels and channels in the dermis and hypodermis; some lymphatic vessels were filled with amorphous proteinaceous material and occasional lymphocytes and macrophages. These protuberances were diagnosed as congenital lymphatic malformations. Most of the gross and microscopical lesions were very similar to those described in humans. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first time that a congenital lymphatic malformation is described in sheep.
AbstractThe goat breeding is an açtivity of social and economical relevance to the Country, reaching significant expansion in several Brazilian areas, mainly in the Northeast. Besides the problems with sanitary handling, the Brazilian climatic conditions favour the development of different parasitosis, between them, the helmintic infections are considered as a fetter to the expansion of this activity in Brazil. This work had as objective to study the infections for gastrointestinal helminths in goat breed in the Metropolitan Area of Recife-Pernambuco state-Brazil through the count of eggs per gram of faeces (EPG) and identification of the third stage of laNae of nematode. There were used an average of 20 animais from a property located ín the municipal district of Paulista. Of these animais, monthly, in pre-established dates individual faecal samples were collected in the period of August of 1998 to July of 1999. lt was obseNed 82% of positivity., Strongyloidea type eggs was obseNed in 72.8% of the samples, 8.4% presented Moniezia spp. and 2% Trichuris sp. Third stage laNae of Haemonchus sp. were present in 75.13%, Trichostrongylus spp. in 24,32% and Oesophagostomum spp. in 0,54%. The medium number of laNae per gram of faeces for the genus Haemonchus and Trichostrongy/us was larger in the months with higher rainfall. There was significant correlation among EPG and temperature, EPG and rainfall, and between EPG and the number of laNae of Haemonchus sp. per gram of faeces. Haemonchus sp. was present in ali months of the period.
