RESUMOInformações sobre a eficiência de uso dos nutrientes aplicados na adubação orgânica são ainda escassas. As recuperações aparentes dos nutrientes aplicados como esterco bovino e como restos de Egeria densa foram comparadas. Grande massa de egéria é retirada dos lagos do sistema hidrelétrico de Paulo Afonso e seu descarte tem sido problemático. Foram feitos cinco plantios consecutivos de milho, por 45 dias cada, em casa de vegetação, após aplicação única de doses equivalentes a 0, 10, 20, 30 e 40 Mg ha -1 de matéria seca. As adições de egéria e de esterco bovino aumentaram as quantidades de fitomassa seca e os conteúdos de N, P e K das plantas, de forma proporcional às doses aplicadas, porém o efeito da egéria foi 3 a 10 vezes maior que o do esterco, exceto quanto ao P, que foi semelhante. Os incrementos com a egéria começaram desde o primeiro plantio, e os do esterco, só no terceiro. No quinto plantio, ambos foram muito pequenos. A eficiência de recuperação dos nutrientes aplicados foi maior quando se utilizaram restos de egéria (N, 34-39 e 7-22 %; P, 47-103 e 9-11 %; e K, 55-76 e 26-34 %, respectivamente), mas, mesmo com a egéria, sobraram nutrientes no solo, que foram absorvidos em pequena proporção no quinto plantio. A liberação de nutrientes dos restos de egéria é mais rápida que no esterco bovino, e seu aproveitamento como adubo orgânico é recomendável. Para controlar a proliferação de Egeria densa e reduzir os prejuízos que vêm causando na geração de energia em Paulo Afonso, é necessário conhecer sua capacidade de regeneração. Para isso, foram marcados quadrados de 4 m², em diferentes épocas do ano e em três profundidades (0-2, 2-6 e 6-9 m), e retiradas as biomassas de E. densa iniciais e três meses depois. Na profundidade de 0-2 m, as retiradas de plantas foram repetidas por cinco vezes, em quatro dos mesmos quadrados. Nesta profundidade, as massas regeneradas (518 g m-2) foram semelhantes às iniciais (482 g m-2), independentemente da época do ano (estação seca, geral: 506 g m-2; chuvosa: 513 g m-2) e da repetição da retirada. Na de 2-6 m, as massas regeneradas foram apenas 66% das iniciais (150 e 229 g m-2) e na de 6-9 m, apenas 21% (11,6 e 54,9 g m-2). A rápida recolonização e o grande crescimento de E. densa tornam muito difícil erradicá-la dos reservatórios do São Francisco. Sugere-se que seja explorado esse grande potencial de produção de biomassa.
RESUMO -Grandes massas de Egeria densa são retiradas dos lagos do sistema hidrelétrico de Paulo Afonso e seu descarte tem sido problemático. O aproveitamento como adubo orgânico foi comparado com o de esterco, em plantio de milho, irrigado, a campo. Foram comparadas as doses de 20 e 40 t ha -1 de matéria seca com testemunha, sem adubo. Paralelamente, foi acompanhada a decomposição do material incorporado ao solo. A massa de E. densa decompôs-se rapidamente, restando menos de um terço após um mês e menos de 1% após dois meses. As adubações com E. densa e esterco incorporaram grande quantidade de nutrientes ao solo e resultaram em produção de grãos de milho (3,5 a 8,5 t ha ). Em média, as produções com E. densa (grãos, 7,7 t ha -1 ) foram maiores que as com esterco (4,2 t ha -1 ), sem diferenças significativas entre doses, possivelmente porque a massa de E. densa libera nutrientes mais rapidamente. Os teores de metais pesados e outros elementos de E. densa ficaram dentro da faixa permitida para adubos orgânicos e não afetaram o milho.
