Previous studies have shown an association between job demands and burnout in medical staff during the pandemic. However, these studies have ignored the possibility of loss cycle occurrence during the crisis. In order to address this gap, the aim of this study was to test the mediating role of burnout in the positive relationship between job demands and the self-undermining of healthcare employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Self-undermining represents the set of behaviors that generate obstacles and diminish performance (e.g., careless mistakes, generating interpersonal conflicts, poor communication), and it has been suggested that this variable could explain the loss cycle between demands and burnout (the phenomenon in which demands increase burnout, which in turn leads to even greater demands). A total of 523 healthcare workers from two Romanian hospitals (e.g., physicians, nurses, stretcher-bearers) completed a self-report questionnaire during the COVID-19 outbreak that included three job demands, burnout, and self-undermining. Burnout mediated the positive relationship between two demands (work–family conflict; lack of equipment and supplies) and self-undermining. These results may provide a preliminary indication for the existence of loss cycles, supporting the assumptions of the job demands-resources theory. Moreover, the results highlight the risk of loss cycle occurrences for healthcare employees during outbreaks.
Creativity, a matter of contemporary importance, represents one of the issues approached by the social and human sciences due to its ability to permeate various fields, transcending the borders of psychology. The article aims to report the results of this study, whose main objective is the study of the development of creativity in preschoolers, in the context of the family. Crohn´s disease (CD) is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that can affect the entire bowel. Psychological disturbances are frequent in Crohn´s disease (CD) patients. The present study aims to determine the frequency with which depression and anxiety occur in patients with Chron disease (CD). We searched some sociodemographic and medical variables and we followed the relationship between depression and age, stage of evolution and disease duration. Were followed two groups of patients (sex ratio F : M-1/1): a group of 45 patients diagnosed with CD and control group of 45 patients with enterocolitis (EC). We applied the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) to assess depression, and State Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spilberger) to assess anxiety. Our results showed that 62.34% of patients with CD presented moderate and severe depression, unlike the control group, where only 16.46% had moderate or severe depression. In both groups we found higher levels of anxiety than average, suggesting that this is a greater extent associated with IBD. The levels of anxiety and depression of CD patients with active disease were higher than that of the EC, but not of the CD patients in remission. The depression score of the CD sample was higher than that of the EC sample (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in trait anxiety among groups. Based on these results, we conclude that screening for depression and anxiety should be carried out routinely as part of quality of care improvement in CD individuals.
This article aims at presenting some results of a research whose overall objective was to highlight the crucial role of interests in shaping the route school/university for achieving successful careers. To identify interests a Questionnaire for Assessing interests was applied by COGNITROM Cluj. We concluded that, although the university level reveals the importance of career counseling and guidance through its introduction into curricula, as distinct curricular area, however it is found that there are still deficiencies in choosing an appropriate educational type which corresponds to the personal vocational interests, which can lead to academic dissatisfaction or professional school failure.
