. B E J . 2000. Arbitrarily-primedpolymerase chain reaction (AP-PCR) DNA ¢ngerprints were generated for10 Vibrio vulni¢cus strains isolated from patients who became infected and died between1993 and1996 as a result of consuming raw oysters. Analysis of the DNA ¢ngerprints with gel imaging and cluster analysis software revealed signi¢cant genetic heterogeneity among these strains, suggesting that V. vulni¢cus has a high degree of variation in its genomic organization, and that multiple pathogenic strains with greatly diverse genomic arrangements, rather than a single type of infective strain or serogroup, caused these infections.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
