A detailed quantitative study of the ultra‐violet and the infra‐red spectra of pomegranate‐seed oil has been made. The ultra‐violet data confirm the presence of a conjugated triene system for which the infra‐red measurements suggest a cis‐cis‐trans‐orientation as the most likely configuration.
A detailed quantitative study has been made of the infra‐red spectra between 2.5 and 15.0 μ of some 19 fatty acids, including mono‐unsaturated acids as well as the polyunsaturated acids, conjugated and non‐conjugated.
In some cases the results permit assignment of the cis‐trans‐structure of the double bonds of the fatty acids and are useful in the analysis of isomeric mixtures, such as may arise during the process of dehydrating castor oil and in the preparation of linseed stand oil.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
