ARAUCARIA FOREST MANAGEMENT BY THE LIOCOURT METHOD, PAINEL MUNICIPALITY, SCABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to describe the diameter distribution and calculate the value of the Liocourt quotient 'q' for the species Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze in natural forest, as well as evaluating competition indexes in a fragment with an area of 74.2 ha. Fixed area sample plots of 400 m² were used in this study, totaling one hectare sampling area. Trees with DBH ≥ 10 cm were measured in all plots and later distributed in diameter classes for the calculation of the density probability function and competition index. The forest showed a density of 228 trees per hectare and basal area of 19.49 m² . ha -1 . The value of the "q" quotient for the forest was 1.1, indicating that the recruitment and mortality rates are in equilibrium. The calculated competition indices showed that the forest is in a competition stage, with Glover and Holl index of 0.9798 and 0.7069 m² for the BAL mod .
Forest management is the legal instrument to propose interventions and conservation of tree species in natural forests; it is a requirement for the management of commercial forest plantations. Considering as objective the conservation with sustainable management and knowledge of the increment rates in forests with Araucaria angustifolia, growth models were fitted with the measures of ring increment data of 587 trees, covering all distribution diameter classes, in four sites in southern Brazil. These fitted models showed the minimum cutting diameter of 40 cm for about 20 years (maximum annual increment in volume), cutting diameter of 55 cm in 37 years (maximum annual mean volume increment) and cutting cycle of 2 to 22.5 years for the diameter classes. The current increment rates in these diameter classes showed the need for approximately 20 years for the species to reach the minimum logging diameter. The lower growth rate in smaller diameter classes indicates that the species requires more time to reach the minimum cutting diameter, which is detrimental to the forest structure. The growth rate variability must be considered in the management of forests with A. angustifolia. The results showed the need and viability of sustainable silvicultural interventions to preserve forest diametric structures; otherwise the forest could compromise the development of larger trees.
6 RESUMO ABSTRACTA Cordia americana (Linnaeus) Cordia americana (Linnaeus) Gottshling & J.E. Mill is used in forest restoration to recover degraded areas and riparian forest, therefore, it is important to know the quality of seedlings produced in nurseries. Thus, the present study aims to predict the Dickson quality index in Cordia americana seedlings under different arrangement conditions. The design was conducted in a protected environment in a randomized block design, in which two sizes (90 and 170 cm³) of the tube and two densities were tested, totaling four combinations. The following morphological parameters were evaluated: plant height, stem diameter, leaf phytomass, stem and root, leaf area, and Dickson quality index. Plant growth was influenced significantly by the volume of the tube and density of plants throughout the evaluation period of the experiment. The container with 170 cm³ volume and 50% density was the highest IQD produced plants with best quality.
Dessa forma, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a área foliar e o índice de área foliar em mudas The leaf area is closely related to the interception of solar energy. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the area and leaf area index in Cordia americana seedlings when submitted to different growing conditions, container volumes (90 and 170 cm³), and crop density (50 and 100% tray load). The design was randomized blocks in a factorial scheme 5 x 2 x 2, with five replications and 10 plants evaluated in each sample unit. Five evaluations were performed at 20-day intervals starting 60 days after emergence. The biophysical parameters evaluated were leaf area and leaf area index. With the results, it was verified that only the tube volume influences the leaf area, being of 177.3 cm² for the tube of 170 cm³ cultivated in density of 100%. The leaf area index was influenced by the tube volume and density of plants, where the highest value was 5.76 for the tube of 90 cm³ in culture with 100% of density. The 100% density management influenced positively the growth of area and leaf area index.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Guajuvira, Manejo de plantas, Volume de recipiente.
