The article aims to comprehend the logics governing the appropriation and consumption of the elements that compose the funk attire, through the dialogue between the classificatory systems and the approaches that focuses upon the materiality of the object. In order to do that, the funk taste will be taken in its transit between the party and daily life, which includes the come and go from the "favelas" to other areas of the city, as the ball itself, school and work. From this point of view, the brands of the garments are seen as indicators of a tense relation with Modernity, wherein the conflict appears as a constituent trait of the youngsters sociality and structuring element of their cosmology
Departing from the nexus between gender and materiality we take money as an aesthetic object in order to elicit the relationality of the male funk person. We bring to the fore money as adornment, as articulator of relations and as substance. Woman, in some accounts described as being objectified, reveals the feminine powers engendering male personhood. We reconceptualize the body and the person as non-discrete entities, rethinking together the notion of "object." We also bring a new meaning to the notion of "ostentation", avoiding a moralizing approach to consumption.
The article main aim is to discuss the relation between funk and religion, through the Mr. Catra's narratives, singer and performer of this musical rhythm. His singularity resides in adding religion to a universe traditionally apprehended as erotic or violent. The artist allows us to articulate his own creation both to his worldview as to the point of view of the youngsters from the favelas slums, main producers and consumers of funk music. The discourse around the divine, present at the artist's performances, is deepen in his daily life, consisting of a medium for expressing his own political position in the world. Although the religious discourse is privileged by Mr. Catra in his will to show his way of understanding the world, the funk strength resides in another aspect, that go by party and daily life. It is the irony itself, so artfully played by the artist, that allows us to realize how the funk is ingenious at, through the laugh, destabilizing the power by a subversive manipulation of cultural symbols dear to the oppressive authority
Por fim, mostra-se como o estudo da moda de vestuário coloca sempre em questão o corpo e a relação que a indumentária estabelece com o mesmo. study of fashion necessarily puts into question the notion of the body itself, and the relation that clothing establishes with it.
