The purpose of this study is to compare policies and practices relating to teacher in-service training in Japan and Turkey. On the basis of the findings of the study, suggestions are made about in-service training activities in Turkey. The research was carried using qualitative research methods. In-service training activities in the two education systems were investigated through visits to the educational institutions and semi-structured interviews. The study indicates that the most important problems facing in-service training activities in Turkey are a lack of professional staff, no collaborative partnerships between teachers, no provision for feedback and no systematic in-service training model.
This study aims to investigate the mediating role of teachers’ organizational commitment (OC) on the relationship between their emotional labor (EL) and work engagement (WE). The study employed a cross-sectional design. The sample of the study consisted of the teachers working in Sakarya province of Turkey. They participated in the study voluntarily and responded scale items online. The findings showed that teachers’ perceptions of EL, OC and WE is relatively high. Also, there are statistically significant and positive correlations among variables. On the other hand, the findings confirmed the hypotheses. Teachers’ EL predicts their OC and WE. Additionally, OC predicts WE and plays a mediating role on the relationship between EL and WE. Based on the findings some suggestions were made.
The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a significant difference in Islamic moral values of pre-service teachers in secondary schools according to their gender, educational departments, universities, parents' educational level, parents' economical level and region. Survey model is carried out in this study. The participants of the study are composed of 554 pre-service teachers from Sakarya University and Aegean University. The data were collected by a five-point Likert scale Islamic Moral Values and analyzed with SPSS. As a result of the study, it is seen that there is a significant difference between the Islamic moral values of pre-service teachers according to their educational departments, universities, parents' educational level, parents' economical level and region. On the other hand, there isn't a significant difference between the Islamic moral values of pre-service teachers according to their gender.
Administrative Support for Teachers' Lifelong Learning: A Study of Scale DevelopmentAbstract If the students are to be educated as individuals who are lifelong learners, at first the teachers who educate them should be lifelong learners and the schools should provide learning opportunities to students and teachers. The aim of this study is to prepare a scale that will identify teachers' perception for being supported by their institutions to become lifelong learners. With this study, the valid and reliable ‚Teachers' Perceptions of Getting Supported by their Institutions in Lifelong Learning‛ scale was prepared with 313 teachers chosen as sample in Sakarya. According to the data gathered in the research, teachers agree with the idea that schools should be learning communities and it is important that teachers should improve themselves in terms of their skills of information and communication technology.
