The peace-building theory was adopted. This study adopted a case study research design. The research instrument used for data collection in this study was a semi-structured interview designed by the authors. The purposive sampling technique was guided in the selection of the participants. The thematic content analysis was adopted in analyzing the data according to the study objectives. The paper's findings show that the Interfaith Mediation Centre worked with security agencies, Farmers Association, and Cattle Breeders Association in promoting peace. The organization has experienced backlash from the two dominant groups of farmers and herders who are dominantly Muslims and Christians. Hence, the paper recommends that the interfaith mediation Centre should be strengthened financially to carry out its functions hitch-free; a report on dialogue should be utilized.
There is currently little or no literature on COVID-19 in relation to educational studies especially in the area of continuous teaching and learning activities. The only literature available is directly related to medical studies. This is not because education is not directly affected by the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic but rather because studies in education rarely incorporate effects of disease on the effective provision of education to learners across the globe. The paper focused on the digital learning tools for creating teaching and learning contents at COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The prime target of the researchers is to outlinethe digital learning tools as it is useful for creating teaching and learning contents for teachers at all level of education. There are many free and paid online digital learning tools available for creating teaching and learning content, such tools include: schoology; Google classroom; Edmodo; Moddle; Grockit; ePals and a lot but just to mention but few. The aforementioned tools were free for some extent, but teachers/tutors and students have to use internet for using these tools for long teaching and learning purpose. Some of the benefits of digital learning tools include the following; to reduce time and cost, issue of any pandemic or lockdown and maintaining social distance to minimize the spread of the disease more especially during pandemic. The paper therefore suggested that there is need for insights regarding the use of digital learning tools and teachers/tutors and students alike should consider digital learning tools for creating and continuous teaching and learning activities. The paper also recommended among others that educational stakeholders in Nigeria should provide training for teachers on how to use various digital learning tools in creating teaching and learning contents.
Background: Plasma cell leukaemia (PCL) is a very rare and aggressive clinical variant of plasma cell dyscrasias with a dismal prognosis. Not less than 28% of patients die within one month after diagnosis. It could arise de novo and is known as primary plasma cell leukaemia (pPCL) or following a diagnosis of MM and is known as secondary PCL (sPCL) occurring mostly during the post chemotherapy period or relapse/refractory MM. Secondary PCL has a relative incidence estimated at 30–40%, and is said to occur in 1.8-4% of all cases of MM. Diagnosis is based on the presence of circulating plasma cell in excess of 20% or an absolute count of greater than 2 x109/L. The clinical presentation of PCL differs from that of MM. Case Presentation: A 48 year old lady previously diagnosed with multiple myeloma and managed with CyBorD three years prior to the index presentation. She presented with unprovoked fracture of the arm and full blood count revealed a differential plasma cell count of 35% with an absolute count of 4.1 x 109/L. She was diagnosed as a case of sPCL and managed with CyBorD-AR. Patient however succumbed to the disease within two months of presentation due to the aggressive nature of her condition. Conclusion: Our case report highlights the clinical heterogeneity of dyscrasias where MM relapsed with PCL which is a rare and aggressive clinical variant of the dyscrasias with dismal prognostic outcome.
One of the main obstacles across the globe is a conflict between social groupings. Conflicts over religion, ethnicity, and post-election violence in Africa, and notably Nigeria, harm people's lives and livelihoods. Conflicts occurred in Kaduna, Plateau, and the Bauchi State over a period of time. There has been a public uproar due to the escalating crisis in Bauchi State. To promote peace-building in Bauchi State, Nigeria, this article attempts to investigate the causes that led to the formation of the Interfaith Mediation Centre. The John Paul Lederach theory of peace building served as the basis for this investigation. The study used a descriptive approach. Qualitative research design was employed. The main informants were chosen by the researcher from among Interfaith Mediation Centre personnel, religious leaders, and government officials using a purposive sample technique. Data were extracted from both primary and secondary sources of data collecting. Thematic content analysis was used for analysing the data. The results of the study showed that although the Interfaith Mediation Centre was founded in 1995 to address the problems of persistent ethno religious violence affecting Bauchi state, its main goal was to put an end the conflicts. Another research result supported the idea that IMC fosters peaceful communities in Bauchi and elsewhere through various forms of strategic involvement and mediation. Accordingly, the study concluded that the organization offers training materials to boost and develop peace-building ability, promote religious tolerance, ethnic unity, and the empowerment of women to inculcate the culture of peace. The study recommended that the Interfaith Mediation Centre should keep promoting dialogue among Muslims and Christians, and also promote peace education in the state.
This study determined the effect of cooperative teaching strategy and instructional material utilization on Mathematics learning achievement of senior secondary school students in Fika LGA, Yobe State, Nigeria. Two (2) objectives were stated and two (2) null hypotheses were tested. Quasi-experimental design was adopted. The population comprised of one hundred and forty (140) students selected from the four senior secondary schools in the study area. Thirty five (35) students were purposively selected from each of the four senior secondary schools. Achievement Test in Mathematics was adapted for the study. Three stages were used in collecting the data: pre-treatment, treatment and post-treatment phases. Independent sample t-test was used to analyze the two (2) null hypotheses. The results were considered at P< 0.05 level. The finding of the study showed that cooperative teaching strategy had significant effect on mathematics learning achievement of senior secondary school students. It is further discovered that instructional material utilization had significant effect on mathematics learning achievement of the students. It is recommended among others that effective use of cooperative teaching strategy and instructional material utilization in teaching mathematics in schools should be used by teachers to enhance student learning achievement in mathematics.
