Saburai goat is a new composite breed in Lampung Province with little information on its performance. This research aimed to predict body weight based on body measurements, namely body length (BL), chest girth (CG), and shoulder height (SH) in female Saburai goats. This study used 42 female Saburai goats aged 3-4 years. The method used in this study was a survey, namely all-female Saburai goats aged 3-4 years were used for this research. The data obtained were analyzed using correlation and simple and multiple linear regression analysis using R program. Coefficient determination (R2), adjusted R2, residual standard error (RSE), Akaike information criterion (AIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), and stepwise regression analysis were used to find the best and most parsimonious regression model to predict BW based on body measurements. The results showed that BL, CG, and SH were positively and significantly correlated with BW of female Saburai goats with correlation coefficients of 0.858, 0.956 and 0.862, respectively. Chest girth was the best predictor for BW if using single predictor with regression equation of Ŷ = -31.17 + 0.93X2. However, combination of BL and CG was the best and most parsimonious regression model in predicting BW of female Saburai goat with regression equation of Ŷ = -36.09 + 0.31X1 + 0.72X2 with R2 = 0.941, adjusted R2 = 0.938, RSE = 2.842, AIC = 216.73 and BIC = 223.78. In conclusion, all body measurements in this study (particularly combination of BL and CG) could be used as predictor for BW with high accuracy of prediction. The result of this study suggested that CG and BL could be as indirect criteria to improve BW of female Saburai goats.
AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ukuran-ukuran tubuh sapi Krui jantan dan betina di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat provinsi Lampung. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada November-Desember 2016. Sampel yang diamati sebanyak 55 ekor sapi jantan dan 71 ekor sapi betina. Metode survey digunakan dalam penelitian ini, dan sampel tersebut ditentukan dengan menggunakan purposive sampling. Data dianalisis dengan uji t. Peubah yang diamati meliputi bobot badan, lingkar dada, panjang badan, dan tinggi pundak. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa rata-rata bobot badan sapi Krui jantan dan betina poel 0 (125,4±117 kg), poel 1 (148,6±136,2 kg), poel 2 (189,6±176,1 kg), poel 3 (234,5±208,4 kg), lingkar dada poel 0 (118±110 cm), poel 1 (132,9±128,3 cm), poel 2 (134,5±129,5 cm), poel 3 (137±130,3 cm), panjang badan poel 0 (103±97,2 cm), poel 1 (110,3±104,1 cm), poel 2 (124,6±109,8 cm) poel 3 (133,6±127,4 cm), sedangkan rata-rata tinggi pundak poel 0 (91,3±86,7 cm), poel 1 (102,5±97,8 cm), poel 2 (105,1±101,1 cm), poel 3 (113±104,7 cm). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bobot badan, lingkar dada, panjang badan, dan tinggi pundak sapi Krui jantan dan betina pada kelompok umur yang sama menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata (P<0,05). AbstractThis research was aimed to determine the measurement of male and famale Krui cattles in west Pesisir district Lampung Province. This research was conducted in November up to December 2016. The samples that observed were about 55 male cattles and 71 female cattles. The survey method was In this research, and those samples were determined by using purposive sampling. Data Were analyzed by t test. The observed variables include body weight, chest circumference, body length, and shoulder height. The results showed that the average body weight of male and female Krui permanent teeth of 0 the average shoulder level is permanent teeth of 0 pair (91.3 ± 86.7 cm), permanent teeth of 1 pairs (102,5 ± 97.8 cm), permanent teeth of 2 pairs (105.1 ± 101.1 cm), permanent teeth of 3 pairs (113 ± 104.7 cm). The results of this research show that body weight, chest circumference, body length, high shoulders of male and famale Krui cattles in the same age group showed significant difference (P<0,05).
<p class="Default">Saburai goat was crossing breed by grading up between male Boer and female Ettawah grade goat. This research was conducted to compare production performance of male Saburai goat at Gisting subdistrict and Sumberejo subdistrict as Saburai goat breeding source area. Survey method were used in this research by observation to 90 at Gisting subdistrict and 90 at Sumberejo subdistrict tails male Saburai goat as sample. The sample were choosed by purposive sampling method. Variables observed were birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), yearling weight (YW), average of preweaning daily gain (APreDG), average of postweaning daily gain (APostDG). The data was analyzed by t-student test. Result of research indicated that BW (3,42+0,28 kg), WW (16,22+3,77 kg), YW (36,56+4,85 kg), APreDG (140,00+0,04 g/tail/day), APostDG (70,00+0,02 g/tail/day) of Saburai goat at Gisting subdistrict was not different (P>0,05) with Saburai goat at Sumberejo subdistrict (BW 3,48+0,41 kg, WW 16,85+258 kg, YW 38,30+5,35 kg, APreDG 150,00+0,03 g/tail/day, APostDG 80,00+0,02 g/tail/day).</p><p class="Default"> </p><p>Keywords: performance production, Saburai male goat, Tanggamus</p>
This study aimed to predict live body weight (BW) of Saburai goat based on body measurements (body length = BL, shoulder height = SH, chest girth = CG) in Saburai goats at different ages and sex. A total of six hundred fifty-four data generated from 214 Saburai goats (108 female goats and 96 male goats) aged 0-12 months were used in this study. We used analysis of correlation and regression model between body measurements and BW using R program. Determination coefficient (R 2 ), root mean square error (RMSE), Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) were used as a reference in finding the best model in addition to using stepwise regression to find a simpler and more efficient model. The result showed that BL, SH and CG positively correlated to BW with the highest correlation value generally was CG followed by BL and SH. Combination of BL and CG was the best predictor for BW and showed the more parsimonious regression model for predicting BW at all ages and sex. Age and sex of goat affected the regression model suggesting that different sex and age had own regression model to predict BW of Saburai goat.
