The culture of foreign nations entering Indonesia is a form of real influence for Indonesia which is a result of emerging technological developments caused by globalization. One of the cultures that entered Indonesia and made a big impact was the increasingly global Korean culture. This is evidenced through the many Korean music and films that are now popular with teenagers. Korean drama, music, and video are packaged uniquely based on their culture and practice obedient values towards ancestors, touching love stories that make teenagers like the products of the ginseng country. This is certainly very sad, teenagers should be the next generation and become role models for generations then it should practice good values. It is undeniable that the presence of Korean music in Indonesia is very popular with many people, they are willing to do anything to be able to fulfill their desires for what they like. Therefore, here we want to examine the level and impact of Indonesian youth fanaticism on music and Korean culture.
Project-based learning (PBL) has gained popularity in education recently. This teaching method provides opportunities for students to learn independently by doing group works in the form of a project. It is seen as a suitable method to teach EFL to replace the traditional ways of teaching. Thus, this case study explores the students' and teachers' experience implementing PBL in the EFL class. Three EFL classes from three different high schools in Indonesia were observed to explore this issue. Six students and three teachers were interviewed to confirm the observation’s result and determine their perception of learning using PBL. The findings show that the class situation improved positively after implementing PBL. Furthermore, PBL was well perceived by both students and teachers. The teaching and learning process went smoothly and well-controlled. The students and teachers show positive perceptions toward PBL in EFL classes. However, some negative points of PBL were also pointed out. Thus, educational sectors may use this study's results to improve the educational quality, specifically for EFL classes.
This study was conducted to find out the representation of cultural content in English language textbook. The object of the research was an English textbook “English on Target” for SMA/MA grade X. The method used by this research was descriptive content analysis. Some underlying models proposed by Moran (2001) and Cortazzi and Jin (1999) were used as the main framework to analyze the textbook. The data were collected from all texts in reading exercises of the textbook. The analysis revealed two main facts. Firstly, dimension of product is dominant in the textbook followed by practices, persons, perspectives and communities. Secondly, most of those types of culture are presented in target culture followed by source culture, culture-free, and international culture. The result showed that the representation of culture indicated that there were some elements of cultural content lack of presentation in the textbook.
