The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between eye-foot coordination (both single and double), speed, and limb length-body height ratio with the ability to perform (sickle) kicks in pencak silat and how much the contribution of each of these attributes. Correlation study was performed with data collection techniques through performance evaluation tests on each variable. 30 male athletes of Pencak Silat Club of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) with height criteria (163-165cm) were willing to participate in this study. The results showed that each variable had a significant correlation, both single and double. Eyefoot coordination and speed have a significant correlation with kicking ability in pencak silat, both with or without controlling other supporting variables. While the ratio of limb length to body height has a correlation with kicking ability if influenced by eye-foot coordination and speed. Eye-foot coordination makes a relative contribution (52.17%), effective (35.11%), speed makes a relative contribution (35.75%), effective (24.06%), and the ratio of limb length to body height makes a relative contribution (12.02%), effective (8.09%). The total effective contribution of the independent variables to the dependent variables is 67.26%. Thus, to improve the ability to perform kicks in pencak silat, an athlete should be able to take advantage of eye-foot coordination and to exert speed by contributing a good ratio of limb length-body height according to the demands of pencak silat.
The purpose of this study was to determine the anthropometric factors that determine the skills of the tanding category of pencak silat. This study uses a correlational method, with a confirmatory factor analysis design that confirms the relationship of indicator variables with latent variables that determine the skills of pencak silat. The collected data is then verified and tabulated to be processed quantitatively by: (a) Analysis of multivariate statistical factors using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) computerized software so that it can be reduced to a number of factors. (b) Calculate the value of the average contribution of each factor in the latent variable and the dependent variable. (c) Describe the value and position of the average score of the dominant variable in importance-performance matrix transformation. The results of this study are as follows: (1) The anthropometric factor that determines the skills of pencak silat in the match category is height with a percentage of roles to a factor of 79%, and the length of legs with a percentage of roles to a factor of 76%. The conclusions in this study are as follows: (1) Anthropometric factors (latent variables ξ1) that determine the skills of pencak silat match categories can be measured by variable height indicators (X1) with a value of 0.86, and leg length (X2) with a value of 0 , 83.
Pencak silat is a martial art characterized by full body contact fighting. Its physical demand during official games has so far received little scientific attention. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to investigate the physical intensity based on the time structure during elite pencak silat competition. The classification of intensity in this study namely high intensity activities (HIA), low intensity activities (LIA), and off position (OP). A total of 45 fights from 3 elite competitions were used as samples. Using a time-motion analysis system, all movements relative to the match time were recorded during the fight. Data were obtained by comparing the fights among weight divisions and match rounds. The results showed that activities' intensity relative to match time structure were 2.6 ± 0.6 s for HIA; 11.3 ± 1.8 s for LIA and 8.4 ± 3.6 for OP. In addition, the ratio between combat and non-fight times is 0.1 ± 0.0. Meanwhile, the duration of HIA and LIA in all weight divisions tends to subsequently increase from round 1 to 3. The difference was found on the duration of OP. Unlike other weight divisions, the duration of OP in the lightweight division tended to decrease over the match rounds. This finding confirms that pencak silat characteristics are intermittent. These results can be useful for trainers aiming to develop training programs to better adapt with the physical demand of the match.
