Nano γAl2O3 has been one of the nanometal oxides that has improved the characteristics of biodiesel. The effect of γAl2O3 nanoparticles addition on premixed flame combustion is investigated with an experiment on the laminar flame speed of Calophyllum inophyllum methyl ester 30% and 70% petrodiesel mixtures, at atmospheric pressure and preheated temperature T = 473K. The γAl2O3 nanoparticles added to CIME30 biodiesel were 0ppm, 100ppm, 200ppm, and 300ppm. Experiments were carried out on a bunsen burner. The equivalent ratio of the mixture between ϕ = 0.67 to 1.17. Experiments revealed that the addition of nanoparticles to CIME30 biodiesel expands the flammability limit and increases the laminar flame speed. CIME30 without nanoparticles, flame stable between ϕ = 0,76 -1,17. CIME30 with nanoparticles, flame stable between ϕ = 0,67 -1,17. Combustion of CIME30 required a lot of air. The highest laminar flame speed occurred at the equivalent ratio ϕ = 0.83. The highest laminar flame speed of CIME30 0, 100, 200, and 300 ppm were 30.77, 34.50, 35.90, 38.45 cm/s respectively. The higher the nano γAl2O3 concentration the higher the laminar flame speed. This occurs due to the catalytic effect of γAl2O3 on biodiesel and its mixtures.
Wind energy has been developed and used as a source of electrical energy by converting wind energy into electrical energy using a generator. There are some wind turbine parameters that important for wind turbines design and model, includes the size of the rotor radius, airfoil selection, chord length, and pitch angle. The study aims to characterize the performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine using computational methods. The methods used a design and simulation of NACA 4412 and NACA 4712 airfoil using QBlade software using wind conditions in the region of Pancer, Jember. Results show that the maximum Cl value of NACA 4712 is higher than in NACA 4412. NACA 4712 has a maximum Cl value = 1.696 at α = 14 o while NACA 4412 airfoil has a maximum value of Cl = 1.628 at α = 15 o. NACA 4712 has the maximum value of Cl/Cd = 153 at α = 2 o , while the NACA 4412 has a maximum value of Cl/Cd = 133.5 at α = 5.5 o. The maximum value of Cl/Cd 4712 is higher than the NACA 4412. At 7.66 m/s of wind speed with 10% turbulence conditions, wind turbines with NACA 4712 airfoil have Cp turbine performance parameters of 0.49929 and obtain a power of 1.15 kW, while wind turbines with NACA 4412 have Cp turbine performance parameters of 0.395365 and obtained power of 0.889 kW at the same wind speed.
This research was conducted to improve the engine performance with ethanol and gasoline mixture, because from fuel mixture with high concentrate causes value of flash point and heat evaporation fuels becomes higher. To overcome these, the air that entrance in combustion chamber heated up to 26°C, 30°C, 40°C and 50°C, the fuel used are E0, E30 and E50 on 2000 to 8000 rotation. The result of research shows E0 fuel highest torque on 30°C with a value 8,98 Nm had 0,22% increase, E30 fuel highest torque on 50°C with a value 9,5 Nm had 1,05% increase and E50 fuel highest torque on 50°C with a value 7,77 Nm had 0,64% increase. On E0 power is 5,96 kW on 30°C had 0,33% increase, the highest power of E30 is 6,29 kW on 50°C had 1,9% increase and the highest power of E50 on 50°C with a value 4,49 kW had 0,89% increase. For the highest consumption is 2000 rotation, for E0 fuel on 50°C with a value 1,43Kg / Hp.Hour, E30 with a value 1,48 Kg/Hp.Hour on 26°C and E50 with a value 2,03 Kg/Hp.Hour on 26°C, this result shows that air heating treatment can improve the engine performance.
Seiring kenaikan konsumsi energi minyak dan menurunnya cadangan minyak bumi, maka perlu beralih ke minyak nabati sebagai sumber bahan bakar terbarukan, salah satunya adalah dari biji nyamplung. Biji nyamplung banyak terdapat di desa Kebondalem, Kecamatan Bangorejo, Kabupaten Banyuwangi. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan mengenalkan potensi minyak nyamplung ke masyarakat desa tersebut. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan oleh tim gabungan dosen dan mahasiswa jurusan Mesin, Fakultas Teknik, Universitas Jember. Kegiatan berupa pengenalan potensi biji nyamplung untuk alternative bahan bakar, dilanjutakn dengan peragaan pengepresan biji menjadi minyak. Di sela-sela kedua acara teresbut diselingi tanya jawab dan diskusi. Hasil dari pengabdian ini cukup membuka wawasan warga desa yang hadir akan potensi nyamplung yang selama ini terabaikan. Tokoh masyarakat dan karang taruna siap untuk menindaklanjuti kegiatan ini dengan rencana penanaman lahan hutan desa dengan nyamplung. Perlu arahan dan kegiatan lanjutan untuk menyambut antusiasme warga desa ini.
Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang pengaruh orientasi medan magnet terhadap karakteristik nyala api pembakaran droplet Calophyllum Inophyllum. Saat ini, Indonesia masih mengembangkan CPO sebagai sumber bahan bakar terbarukan untuk menggantikan solar. Persoalannya, CPO dijadikan sebagai sumber pangan sehingga akan berdampak pada kelangkaan pangan. Bahan bakar yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah CCIO yang ditambah dengan variasi orientasi medan magnet S-U, U-S, S-S, U-U dan tanpa magnet. Volume droplet yang diuji 1,25-1,31 ml ditempatkan pada thermocouple type K 0,1 mm yang terletak di antara 2 magnet dengan intensitas 1,1 T. Karakteristik nyala api droplet meliputi kestabilan nyala api, ignition delay time, temperatur dan tinggi nyala api. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Medan magnet berperan meningkatkan kualitas pembakaran melalui perannya meningkatkan tumbukan antar molekul menjadi lebih kuat karena spin elektron yang dipercepat oleh medan magnet. Pengaruh tersebut dapat dilihat pada arah medan magnet U-S yang menghasilkan temperatur paling tinggi dan ignition delay time yang paling pendek. Ini karena arah kutub magnet berperan sebagai transport O2 dan H2O melintasi droplet sehingga reaksi yang dihasilkan mampu meningkatkan kualitas pembakaran. Sedangkan pada kutub magnet tolak S-S maupun U-U salah satu partikel akan bergerak keluar dari nyala api sehingga reaksi yang terjadi kurang maksimal. Dampaknya, partikel menjadi selaras sehingga menyebabkan ledakan mikro yang terjadi relatif lebik kecil.
Nyamplung (Calophyllum Inophyllum) is an environmentally friendly alternative fuel that can be used to replace the consumption of fossil fuels. The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the effect of magnetic fields on the premixed flame of biodiesel from Calophyllum Inophyllum, the experiments were carried out on a bunsen burner. Fuel evaporation uses a temperature of 473 K and the equivalent ratio used is between ϕ 0.7; 0.8; 0.9; 1.0; 1.1 and 1.2. This experiment used a modified magnet that has magnetic force in 11.000 gausses with magnetic variations N-S, S-N, N-N, and S-S. Experiments revealed that magnetic fields have a significant effect to increase the value of laminar flame speed on magnetic variations point at S-S 3.8%; N-N 4.8%; S-N 17.09%, and the highest laminar flame speed were at point N-S 20.7%. The enhancement value of laminar flame speed indicated more optimum combustion processes. The magnetic fields can influence the O2, and H2O and change the orientation of the hydrocarbons which makes it easier for O2 and fuel to carry out the oxidation process, resulting in more optimal combustion.
Kendaraan merupakan alat transportasi yang berfungsi sebagai sarana yang digunakan untuk berpindah lokasi. Bagian penting dari suatu konstruksi kendaraan adalah chassis. Chassis memiliki fungsi sebagai penopang komponen pada suatu kendaraan. Salah satu hal yang dapat diteliti dari chassis yaitu gaya yang terjadi pada chassis. Guna mengetahui gaya yang terjadi pada chassis, dilakukan penelitian mengenai gaya yang terjadi pada chassis akibat pembebanan statik yang terjadi. Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan enam strain gauge yang dipasang pada tiga titik, pada masing-masing titik dipasang pada sumbu x dan sumbu y guna mencari gaya yang terjadi pada chassis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian maka dapat diperoleh nilai gaya terbesar terjadi pada titik dua yaitu masing-masing 289,54 N pada sumbu x dan 178,09 N pada sumbu y dengan beban driver 45 kg dan 323,17 N pada sumbu x dan 246,64 N pada sumbu y dengan beban driver 56 kg.
