Les nanosciences et nanotechnologies constituent un domaine d’activités scientifiques dont le développement s’est spectaculairement accéléré ces dernières années. Cet article l’aborde à partir d’une enquête ancrée dans les espaces de travail, s’appuyant sur des entretiens et des observations menés au sein d’un groupe de laboratoires de physique appartenant à un organisme public français. Suivant les physiciens au travail, il rappelle l’importance du rapport aux instruments, notamment à travers la valorisation des pratiques de « bricolage » qui caractérisent la culture professionnelle dont les acteurs se réclament. Cette culture professionnelle associe clairement ces pratiques instrumentales à une organisation « distribuée », et l’auteur montre comment l’attachement des chercheurs à ce type d’organisation prend un sens particulier relativement à leur perception des transformations qui touchent leur univers professionnel, dans le cadre de la politique dite « de l’innovation ».
