Introdução: Dentre os distúrbios encontrados nos pacientes com AVE, a hemiparesia é um dos comprometimentos motores mais evidentes. Esses pacientes podem manter-se em uma posição de assimetria postural, com distribuição de peso menor sobre o lado afetado. Isso resulta em dificuldade nas habilidades funcionais e alteração da marcha. Objetivo: Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi averiguar a simetria e transferência de peso em pacientes com seqüelas de AVE e sua correlação com o desempenho das AVDs. Método: Foram avaliados 8 indivíduos com idade média de 56,75 ±10,25 anos e tempo de lesão de 48 ±32,7 meses. Foi realizada avaliação da simetria e transferência de peso (ASTP) e a avaliação das AVDs pelo Índice de Barthel (IB). Após as avaliações, os dados foram correlacionados através do índice de correlação de Pearson e a reta de regressão entre os resultados das avaliações. Resultados: Pode-se verificar que houve uma correlação positiva excelente (r:0,98) entre a ASTP e IB. Conclusão: Esses valores sugerem que a diminuição da simetria e transferência de peso prejudicam as atividades funcionais nos pacientes com hemiparesia.
