The aim of this paper is to review and analyse the importance of the framework for urban farming activities to be implemented within cities environment. This paper also describes the role of the community to achieve the environmental, economic and social sustainability for the enhancement of the urban environment and healthy lifestyles through community participation in food supplies, nutrition, and spaces utilization. The paper evaluates the benefits and potential of urban farming activities within limited urban spaces and how it improves the quality of life. It also reviews on how urban farming is beneficial to the society due to food shortage crisis which is inadequate for the whole population. It is necessary to apply and practice in our daily lives for the consumption of food security, human safety, and health. Therefore, the role of community is very crucial in the implementation of urban farming activities within urbanized areas as the demand for green development increases. Based on this theoretical framework, it is hoped that the paper will be a useful addition to the body of knowledge in promoting a stronger community interdependence to create the sustainable urban environment.
It has been proven that proper landscape planning and designs with the sustainability concept and approach help to create a conducive and responsive environment of housing development. This paper presents a brief of conceptual view on the important aspects of landscape design on housing development in urban areas. The review is based on the theoretical framework of the relationship between landscape design in planning and designing the housing development in urban areas as well as how it acts as an added value to the sustainable residential landscape design. A review on previous researches and journals are doing in providing a theory on the importance aspect of landscape design in housing areas. It is hoped that this paper may possibly provide significant information on landscape design towards influencing the prices and values of the house. This paper also can become an indicator towards enhancing the sustainability of living environment.
Focusing on a world class living environment, a good quality residential area can be highlighted as an important issue in creating a sustainable living environment. However, limited green spaces within the proximity of residential properties are not supporting the landscape space and are not conducive to living space. The aim of the paper is to investigate the impact of landscape design on house prices and values in residential development particularly in urban areas. The paper employed quantitative approaches which include i) a questionnaire survey; and ii) an observation. This empirical study is based on the findings of case studies conducted in several residential areas in Klang Valley. The findings show that the residents have very clear ideas on how much green space is really important in residential areas in order to create a sustainable residential environment. Despite the absence of public actions in terms of providing information, encouraging participations in the survey and promoting awareness of those interviewed have shown considerable interest in promoting landscape design to be applied in residential development. The perceptions of the quality and quantity of landscape designs in residential areas especially in Klang Valley can be further researched for future study.

The development of GIS has progressed dramatically in recent years and its use has proliferated in government planning departments in Malaysia. The majority of the information utilised for planning activities such as development control has a geographical component. The argument is that creating a successful GIS within planning organisation must be seen from a socio-technical rather than just a technical perspective. This paper presents an investigation on the use of GIS technology, specifically at the Department of Urban Planning (DUP) and the Master Plan Department (MPD) in the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (KLCH) Malaysia. The paper employed a combination of a case study, a semi-structured interview, and a survey questionnaire and observations of the activities of the department. The findings demonstrate that the skill, knowledge and training influence the planning staff to use GIS effectively. It is proved that the manner in which these factors interact with the GIS determines the processes which affect the utilisation process of automated systems. The paper concludes that a situation of mutual dependency whereby the socio-technical factors influence the utilisation of GIS and, at the same time, the technology has various impacts in terms of benefits and problems on the planning departments and staff involved. Thus, the identification of the socio-technical factors and the manner in which the users interact enables greater understanding of the processes affecting the effective use of GIS at the DUP and MPD, KLCH.
