It has been proven that proper landscape planning and designs with the sustainability concept and approach help to create a conducive and responsive environment of housing development. This paper presents a brief of conceptual view on the important aspects of landscape design on housing development in urban areas. The review is based on the theoretical framework of the relationship between landscape design in planning and designing the housing development in urban areas as well as how it acts as an added value to the sustainable residential landscape design. A review on previous researches and journals are doing in providing a theory on the importance aspect of landscape design in housing areas. It is hoped that this paper may possibly provide significant information on landscape design towards influencing the prices and values of the house. This paper also can become an indicator towards enhancing the sustainability of living environment.
Focusing on a world class living environment, a good quality residential area can be highlighted as an important issue in creating a sustainable living environment. However, limited green spaces within the proximity of residential properties are not supporting the landscape space and are not conducive to living space. The aim of the paper is to investigate the impact of landscape design on house prices and values in residential development particularly in urban areas. The paper employed quantitative approaches which include i) a questionnaire survey; and ii) an observation. This empirical study is based on the findings of case studies conducted in several residential areas in Klang Valley. The findings show that the residents have very clear ideas on how much green space is really important in residential areas in order to create a sustainable residential environment. Despite the absence of public actions in terms of providing information, encouraging participations in the survey and promoting awareness of those interviewed have shown considerable interest in promoting landscape design to be applied in residential development. The perceptions of the quality and quantity of landscape designs in residential areas especially in Klang Valley can be further researched for future study.
The numbers of kindergarten in Malaysia boost every year as a learning environment for children as preparation for them to face the next level of education in primary school. Thus, comfortable learning environments are essential to enhance not only well-being but also increase the productivity and learning of the children. Therefore, the importance of organization and utilization of spaces can influence children’s activities and learn. This paper aims to identify the criteria of space planning and the issues of space comfort of the public kindergarten in Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia. By using a case study as a method, the observation of the classrooms and interviews with the teachers of the kindergarten emphasized the specific space planning applied in public kindergarten. However, some issues are highlighted regarding interior decoration and space arrangement by the occupant. Data obtained hopefully will give some ideas and benefit for the future direction of kindergarten’s teacher, authority, architect, and designer to improve the quality of the physical environment, especially in creating space for children.
Public buildings such as kindergarten can be used as a potential educational spot in promoting environmental sustainability for the children. Most of the public kindergartens in Malaysia are facing uncomfortable issues, such as due to the poor air ventilation and inefficient design at the respective building and facilities. By promoting green design and sustainability, this paper presents the synthesis of other studies, which consist of the factors and aspect approaches towards the application of green design in developing development of kindergarten building. This paper will review different articles and studies, which have published within 2009 until recently from the selected online database. Through green design at kindergarten, it is hoped to be able to promote sustainability for the children and foster designers to design more friendly buildings for them.
