Plagiarism is not a recent issue as it exists for a long time, and it is still happening especially within the academic world. The study aims to examine the applicable laws relating to plagiarism from the academician's perspective by referring to India as the benchmark jurisdiction. As the findings show that there are no standard policies for all educational institutions to cope with plagiarism, Malaysian government need to address the gap in current regulations by having uniform legislation to all institutions pertaining on academic misconduct of the academicians. Plagiarism is acknowledged as dangerous, especially when academicians are accused of being engaged in malpractice in publishing their research papers. The increased amount of online access to research led to academic dishonesty and plagiarism rising in higher learning institutions. It is challenging to balance the academic and public interest demand with the intervention of globalisation in education, which introduces the hegemonic world ranking universities. Plagiarism has resulted in the unoriginality of research outputs which can affect the knowledge in the future. It also resulted in the academicians abusing their honour while writing research papers in whatever discipline of knowledge. This is a severe problem that needs a quick reform to the legal framework. From the qualitative data, the study believes that by having a proper provision relating to plagiarism in the legal framework, especially for the academicians, plagiarism cases in the educational institution may be reduced. The current existing policies and guidelines should be inserted directly into any relevant Act or rules and regulation to be imposed on the parties involved. The government needs to produce a fair and standard provision on plagiarism in dealing with the weaknesses or loopholes in the educational institution policies and regulations for academic integrity to be upheld.
Non-native English learners often face challenges to articulate their ideas while speaking in the target language. Because of this, it was far more difficult for them to get their thoughts over to the audience. To overcome this issue, the learners employ various communication strategies to promote their audience's understanding. Hence, this research aims to determine the factors that contribute to fear of oral presentations and the communication strategies (CS) used by undergraduate students. The study employs a quantitative survey in which 201 participants in a public university in Pahang were conveniently selected to answer a threesectioned survey; Section A elicits demographic background of the participants, Section B investigates their communication strategies used and Section C probes on the causes of fear of oral presentation. The findings show that students dread oral presentations both due to internal and external forces. They commonly employ Social-affective strategies and Message reduction, orientation and non-verbal strategies to cope with their fears. Additionally, the usage of CS has a slight impact in reducing their fear of oral presentation. Future research on alternative strategies to reduce students' fear of oral presentation are therefore recommended in order to tackle the issue.
