Physiological data analyzed were: respiratory rate, heart rate, rectal temperature, tympanic temperature, sweating rate and blood pressure. The physiological mechanisms of heat dissipation are shown to be effective in maintaining the homeothermy of the animals studied at all temperatures. The temperature of 25ºC can be determined as the thermal comfort zone for SantaInes lambs in an environment with relative humidity of 65%.
ABSTRACTThis work aimed to study the influence of four thin layer drying temperatures (40, 50, 60 and 70 ºC) and two air velocities (0.9 and 1.9 m/s) in the content of linalol of the Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). It was used a tray dryer specially built for this experiment in the drying laboratory of the UESB at the Campus de Itapetinga-Ba . There were made four repetitions with 100 g of fresh leaves in each one of the five trays in the dry chamber In the extraction of the essential oil, a vapor hauling system was used and the oil analysis was made in a gas chromatographer that was connected to a mass spectrometer (CG-MS). The greatest extracted profits of basil s essential oil were obtained in the drying process with 40 ºC of air temperature and 1.9 m/s of air velocity. The greatest profit of linalol was obtained with the air drying temperature in the range of 50-60 ºC and 1.9 m/s of air velocity (2.23 and 2.47 ppm, respectively). It was estimated, by regression analysis, that the air drying temperature of 54.4 ºC and the air flow of 1.9 m/s would provide the greatest profit of linalol. It was concluded that the chemical composition of the basil was affected by both drying air temperature and velocity.
THE INFLUENCE OF MULCHING IN RELATION TO PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SUGAR APPLE (Annona squamosa L.)ABSTRACT -The application of vegetal wastes to soil have a beneficial effects on soil nutrient, physical conditions, biological activities and on the culture performance, the main objective of this study was to evaluate three kinds of vegetable byproducts: sugar cane bagasse, coffee chaff, and Buffel straw, regarding to the effect on the physical and chemical characteristics of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.).The experimental design used completely randomid plots with five repplications, and two plants per plot. The total fruit mass, the peel mass, the seed mass per fruit were evaluated. The pulp level of soluble solids was measured, as well as its pH. The presence of this mulching provided an increase in the fruit mass, thereby, increasing the commercial profit, as larger the fruit is, the greater the value per weight is. There was not a pH increase in the pulp, on the other hand the treatment using coffee chaff provided a greater level of soluble solids. Regarding to the other measured characteristics, no differences were found. Index Terms: Annona, fruit pulp, pH of the pulp, chaff mass.
Summary The objective of this work was to characterise the foams of purple Brazilian cherry (Eugenia uniflora L.) pulp made with different additives, aiming at foam‐mat drying. Characterisation was made through analyses of moisture, pH, acidity, soluble solids, density, water activity, colour, total and reducing sugars, protein and ashes. Drying was done at 55 °C for 2 h. Dried Brazilian cherry juice powder was rehydrated for acceptance test. It is concluded that the physicochemical characterisation of fresh Brazilian cherry pulp was satisfactory and was in accordance with the Brazilian standards for agro‐industrial products. Albumin was the best foaming agent that produced a good‐quality powder in a short period. The foam‐mat drying of Brazilian cherry pulp using albumin and Superliga® (Duas Rodas Industrial ltda, Santa Catarina, Brazil) as foaming agents produced a powder with good physicochemical properties and sensory quality and most preferred juice.
