The effect of integrated use of manure and fertilizers on crop yield, nutrient uptake and soil fertility was studied in the Boro-fallow-T. Aman cropping pattern over two years. The experiment was set up at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) farm, Mymensingh under the AEZ 9 (Old Brahmaputra Floodplain). The field trial consisted of eight treatments and control (no fertilizer or manure), 100% chemical fertilizers (CF), and IPNS based six treatments with six types of manure. Cowdung (CD), CD slurry, Trichocompost (TC) and vermicompost (VC) were added to soil at 5 t ha -1 and poultry manure (PM) and PM slurry applied at 3 t ha -1
Irrational use of medicines is widespread throughout the world. Polypharmacy, injudicious use of antimicrobials and unnecessary use of vitamins are commonly observed. In an attempt to observe the prescribing practices in a Teaching Hospital outpatient departments and to sensitize the future prescribers about rational prescribing, 1200 prescriptions were collected and analyzed by 4th year MBBS students using some of the WHO/INRUD core drug prescribing indicators. The average number of drug per prescription was 3.24. Only 0 13% drugs prescribed under generic names. Around 36.83% of prescriptions were prescribed with antimicrobials and 7.08% prescriptions were contained injections. About 48.35 drugs were prescribed from essential list of drugs and vitamins were prescribed in 33.33% prescriptions. The result revealed that there are apparent lacks of prescribing habit among the prescribers even in a teaching hospital. It is suggested that the periodic evaluation of prescribing practices at a health facility would eventually help to promote rational prescribing. Furthermore, participation of 4th year MBBS students in such exercise may enhance the understanding and sensitize them about rational use of medicines in future. An investigation was carried out to determine the pH, EC, TDS, As, Mn, Fe, and Pb in the ground water at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Campus. The water samples were collected from the tube well and reserved tank at 6 different locations in February, 2012 and August, 2012 covering hall and academic establishment. The concentration of pH, EC, TDS, As, Mn, Fe, and Pb varied 6.4-6.8, 377.5-590µscm -1 , 192.5-282ppm, 0.00018-0.0159ppm, 0.07-3.825ppm, 0.00-5. 618 ppm and 0.00-0.00006 ppm respectively. According to the standard of drinking water pH, EC, TDS, As, and Pb toxicity were not detected and in some cases the concentrations of Mn and Fe were considered as toxicants due to their higher concentrations. Correlation and seasonal fluctuation were also considered in this study. The dry season sample contained higher amount of trace metals than that of wet season.
Effect of thickness on structural, optical and morphological properties of 2% copper (Cu) doped zinc selenide (ZnSe) thin films, grown onto chemically and ultrasonically cleaned glass substrate by thermal evaporation method in high vacuum (~10 Torr) were studied. Films of 100, 200, 300 and 400 thickness were prepared at 200℃ substrate temperature where annealing temperature and annealing time was fixed at 100℃ and 1 hour respectively. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) exhibited polycrystalline nature indicating the zinc-blende structure with a preferential orientation along the (111) plane of cubic phase. The grain size was found to be 19.27. Dislocation density and microstrain were also found as 2.691 × 10 and 1.85 × 10 respectively. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) study confirmed the growth of grains and their distribution over the entire surface of the films. All the films were characterized optically by UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer in the photon wavelength ranging from 300 to 1000 . The optical transmittance and reflectance were utilized to compute the absorption coefficient, extinction coefficient and band gap energy of the films. The calculated band gap energy was found to increase (2.99 to 3.94) with varying thickness. The maximum transmittance was found to be 87.65% for the 400 film.
