This parasite is found in the bronchi and pulmonary arteries of the host and infection in healthy individuals is subclinical and may lead to interstitial bronchopneumonia, dyspnea and respiratory discomfort in massive infections. In this article we report a case of aelurostrongylosis in an apathetic and anorexic domestic cat with no respiratory signs. Another objective is to alert the veterinary community to increase the prevalence of parasites in domestic cats, as well as their ability to live relatively in harmony with the infection, making diagnosis a complex and challenging task.
Cutaneous mast cell tumor is a neoplasm originated from the disordered proliferation of mast cells, being highly infiltrative in the subcutaneous and dermis. In cats it represents 12 to 20% of skin tumors. However, case reports of this tumor in Brazil are rare. The objective of this work is to describe clinical, cytological and hematological aspects of cutaneous mast cell tumor in a female feline, mixed breed, weighing 2.7 kg, aged 3 years, attended at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Cruz Alta with a history that about 6 months had a progressive increase in volume above the right eye. Physical examination revealed stained mucous membranes, normal temperature, capillary filling time <2 seconds and a solitary nodule, well circumscribed, not ulcerated, of firm consistency and approximately 5 cm on the face. After performing fine needle aspiration cytology, the diagnosis of cutaneous mastocytoma was obtained. From cytology, this tumor is classified in the round cell neoplasm category, along with lymphoma, a transmissible venereal tumor, among others, which is why these must be included as a differential diagnosis. In this context, laboratory tests play an important role in diagnosing the disease and monitoring the patient's health.
