The automotive sector is one of the key branches of the global economy. The automotive industry is also a very important sector of the Polish economy, as it generates over 8% of GDP and accounts for over 20% of the annual export value. Industry 4.0 and the effective use of modern technologies give a chance for its further dynamic development. The implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions in the business processes of automotive companies should not only take place in the area of production or logistics, as it is usually indicated, but also in their other functional areas, such as quality management, human resources management, and innovation management. The purpose of the article is to diagnose the level of maturity in the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions in selected management areas of automotive companies operating in Poland. Using a maturity assessment tool, the authors assessed the level of maturity in six selected functional areas of an enterprise, such as production and logistics management, quality management, human resources management, social and environmental responsibility, and product innovation management. The authors also formulated conclusions and recommendations concerning actions that should be taken by automotive companies in order to achieve higher maturity levels in the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions.

Celem artykułu jest zidentyfikowanie różnych perspektyw teoretycznych i obszarów badawczych nad współtworzeniem wartości w literaturze światowej i krajowej. Do identyfikacji głównych perspektyw badawczych wykorzystano metodę systematycznego przeglądu literatury, w tym analizę liczby cytowań. Należy zauważyć nieco odmienną aktywność badawczą w trzech wymienionych strumieniach pomiędzy autorami krajowymi a zagranicznymi. W przeciwieństwie do autorów zagranicznych w literaturze krajowej znacznie większy udział artykułów znalazło się w nurcie zarządzania innowacjami i marketingu niż w teorii usług. Pierwsze dwie perspektywy rzadko podejmują jako główny problem współtworzenie wartości, za to częściej przyjmują za pewnik i uznany ważny element, który pomaga przedsiębiorstwom uzyskać lepsze wyniki w zakresie innowacji i satysfakcji klienta.

Obecnie szczególnych wyzwań, które stoją przed przedsiębiorstwami produkcyjnymi, upatruje się w dwóch obserwowanych makrotrendach-zjawisku serwicyzacji oraz inicjatywie Przemysłu 4.0. Serwicyzacja to zjawisko (proces) obserwowane na poziomie gospodarek narodowych oraz na poziomie samych przedsiębiorstw, których oferta produktowa w coraz większym stopniu powiększa się o komponent usług 2. Inni autorzy definiują zjawisko serwicyzacji jako innowacyjny sposób organizacji zdolności i procesów w celu lepszego kreowania wspólnej (klienta i dostawcy/ów) wartości poprzez przejście ze sprzedaży produktów w kierunku dostarczania zintegrowanych rozwiązań złożonych z produktów, usług i wiedzy 3. The aim of this paper was to investigate the level of necessity for one of the three conditions (organisational capabilities), i.e., exploitation, exploration, and organisational ambidexterity to achieve the desired level of business performance in digital servitisation of manufacturing enterprises. Servitisation (at present, also in combination with Industry 4.0 solutions) is perceived as an important factor for the competitiveness of manufacturers. The idea of (digital) servitisation can also be considered in terms of sustainability. The main expectation here is that successful servitisation will result in a lower environmental impact by moving away from the traditional business model, in which the manufacturer produces the products and then transfers the responsibility for their ownership and use to the customer, towards achieving benefits from the customers’ use of the products (the product remains the property of the manufacturer). Achieving success in digital servitisation requires, among other things, appropriate use of dynamic capabilities, such as exploitation, exploration, or their combination, i.e., organisational ambidexterity. However, it is still unclear to what extent an ambidextrous organisation engages in both types of activities to increase the combined level of exploration or exploitation and how this affects company performance in digital servitisation. On the basis of a survey of a sample of 167 manufacturers, the necessary conditions for achieving the desired performance values were determined. For this purpose, one non-parametric method was used, i.e., necessary condition analysis (NCA). The results show that ambidexterity is not, in every case, a necessary condition for achieving better performance in digital servitisation. Organisational ambidextrousness is a necessary (but not sufficient) condition for better performance in dimensions such as market share, customer retention, sales growth, and overall firm performance. For competitive position, the limiting factor is exploration only, whereas for customer satisfaction, it is exploitation.

Streszczenie. W artykule przedstawiono dwoistą rolę usług w przedsiębiorstwach produkcyjnych, a następnie teoretyczny model współczesnej oferty produktowej przedsiębiorstw produkcyjnych składającej się ze zintegrowanych rozwiązań produktowo-usługowych. Model został oparty na podejściu procesowym oraz na bazie propozycji integracji w jeden spójny model produktów materialnych i usług zaproponowany przez Gallouj'a i Weinstein'a.
