Three new uranyl-organic coordination polymers (UO2)8(NDC)12(4,4'-bipyH2)3(4,4'-bipyH)3 (1), (UO2)3O[Ag(2,2'-bipy)2]2(NDC)3 (2), and (UO2)2(NDC)2(2,2'-bipy)2 (3), where NDC=1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylate and bipy=bipyridine, have been prepared in hydrothermal conditions. Both 1 and 2 possess a 2D structure while 3 is composed of 1D zigzag chains. In 1 there are mononuclear pentagonal-bipyramidal U-O polyhedra and 1D channels filled with 4,4'-bipy molecules, whereas in 2 there are mononuclear hexagonal-bipyramidal U-O polyhedra and tetranuclear pentagonal-bipyramidal U-O clusters which form 2D channels with occluded [Ag(2,2'-bipy)2]+ counterions. In 3 both the NDC and the bipy ligands coordinate to uranyl centers, leading to hexagonal-bipyramidal polyhedra which are connected to form 1D zigzag chains. Under UV or visible irradiation, 1 and 2 degrade rhodamine B with similar efficiency. The correlation between photocatalytic reaction rate and oxygen concentration for 1 and 2 has also been elucidated. We have described an unprecedented three-dimensional zeolite-like copper iodide constructed from Cu4I4(DABCO)4 (DABCO = 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) supertetrahedron units. This compound forms a four-connected network with new 6(6) topology. Its structure reveals one-dimensional channels along the [001] direction, and the framework displays interesting self-penetration. The title compound shows photoluminescence at room temperature in the solid state.

Two isomers of copper halides of the framework formula (CuI) 7 (DABCO) 2.5 were prepared by solvothermal methods, and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both of the structures contain two types of secondary building units, which are connected differently giving rise to two three-dimensional structures. These two structures both contain FSC topology, which is only predicted by O'Keeffe in theory, and is the first observation, to our knowledge, of FSC topology in coordination polymers. The formations of these structures show a good example of different connectivity between the building units that can form different structures. The compounds have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and photoluminescence studies.

Three novel fluorinated indium phosphates with the formulas In3F2(2,2‘-bipy)2(HPO4)2(H1.5PO4)2 (1), In2F2(H2O)(2,2‘-bipy)(HPO4)2 (2), and In2F2(H2O)(2,2‘-bipy-5-amine)(HPO4)2 (3) have been prepared hydrothermally in the presence of 2,2‘-bipy and 2,2‘-bipy-5-amine ligands. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 possesses an unusual neutral chained structure, which is not only the first 1D chain in the indiumphosphate family but also shows a new type of chain structure compared with those metalphosphates reported in the literature. Meanwhile, 2 and 3 present 2D undulated sheetlike structures with the same inorganic framework topology. The adjacent layers are stably packed together and exhibit interesting 3D supramolecular arrays with π−π interactions of the bipy groups. It is noteworthy that the different ratios of In:P for reactant addition lead to the formation of different structures in the presence of the same bipy ligands (In:P = 1:6 for compound 1 and In:P =1:4 for 2). By comparatively studying the photoluminescence properties of these compounds, we may conclude that the photoluminescence originates from ligand-centered π−π* transitions. The as-synthesized products are further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, 31P MAS NMR and IR spectroscopy, ICP, and elemental analysis.
