This research integrated the needs to the regional environments, residents, and tourists to discuss the attractive factors of regional characteristics of the public and private realm. Using Tunghai Art Street as an example, the criteria for regional activation were proposed to shape the tourist attraction with cultural and art characteristics. The preliminary investigation recorded the art installations in Art Street's pedestrian-only space and Corbusier Square, and observed the tourist behavior and activities in the space. Then, interviews were conducted with the community administrators and tourists, in order to learn their opinions and determine key indicative factors. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the tourists. Meanwhile, the Kano Model, IPA, and ANOVA were employed to discover and analyze the main attractive elements of Art Street. As indicated by research results, the positive comments of interview respondents center on the unique and charming characteristics of stores and the aesthetic and artistic atmosphere of streets, while the negative impressions mostly concerned transportation issues, such as insufficient parking spaces, obstacles on the sidewalks, and difficulty for pedestrians to walk on the sidewalks. Based on the results, this study offered suggestions for improving local activities, public facilities, street landscapes and stores.
Love River has played a critical role in the development of Kaohsiung City. The city recently succeeded in publicizing the bank scenery of Love River, which has now become a tourist destination in Kaohsiung. Love River's lower reach was chosen as the subject of this study, in order to explore the relation between urban riverbank reconstruction and tourism attractiveness shaping; this study adopted the approach of focus group interview involving planning officials, non-governmental organizations, tourists, industries and local residents; it established Love River Tourism Attractive Elements Questionnaire based on the Kano Model and carried out research in five major dimensions including existing resources, tourism activities, food and accommodation, transportation, and spatial comfort so as to determine the elements that help shape riverbank attractiveness. The results of the investigation were analyzed, and suggestions for riverbank development were provided. The statistical analysis concludes that to enhance the riverbank tourism attractions of Love River, the following priority sequence of development should be followed: (1) proactive development; (2) basic development; (3) considerable development; (4) suspended development. Considering the development priority sequence of the attractive elements of Love River riverbank tourism, this study finally proposed concrete suggestions for Love River's future development in four parts: spatial form, experience of the four senses, transportation planning, and activity strategy.
Without creativity in design, there is no potential for innovation. This article investigates the role of contradictions in enhancing creativity in product design. Based on the inventive principles of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving, this article presents a novel design method by integrating technical and physical contradiction analysis methods into the conceptual design activities of new product development. Although the importance of innovative design is widely recognised, there is a lack of systematic and effective design-thinking processes that can cover all conceptual design activities. To address this gap, this study presents a clear problem-solving model to aid innovative product design based on the contradiction-oriented concept. A case study is employed to illustrate the proposed method, and the results demonstrate that it can help designers produce more creative outcomes in product design.
This study attempts to understand how users use rest facilities and, through observation and surveys conducted in three plazas, tries to identify their demand on the rest facilities. The results showed activities in the plaza bringing in large crowds. Half of all users used the supplementary rest facilities such as green decks, railings, and stairs. As a result of ongoing user activities, the rest and other facilities were observed to be closely related. Additionally, children comprised more than 10% of users in the three plazas and tended to use the rest facilities in a dangerous manner. The survey results demonstrated that cleanliness and communication were crucial issues for users. Thus, suggestions include having a plaza design that is based on activities to be held there, that take into account the needs of children, and that consider the environment, users' comfort, and the need to facilitate communication.
With regard to the outpatient areas of a hospital, the smoothness of the route is now taken into consideration in the process of configuring the wayfinding system. As patients often spend time on ineffective wayfinding processes, and there is limited manpower at hospitals and a lack of clarity in the information provided by the wayfinding system, it is difficult to provide effective and timely consultation services for patients. This study was conducted at Cheng Ching Hospital, Chung Kang Branch (CCH/CKB) in Taiwan. This study attempts to investigate the relationships between the wayfinding system of the outpatient areas and the patients’ behaviors in the hospital. Depthmap software based on space syntax is adopted to assist in the route analysis and wayfinding behaviors. It integrates axial mapping analysis and isovist analysis and gives suggestions on the location, format and content of the wayfinding system. The final results of the study show that in the wayfinding task experiment gender has no significant impact on the effect of wayfinding efficiency, while a significant difference is found for age. Older people need more time to complete the wayfinding task, which means that they have poorer performance in wayfinding efficiency. The analysis of the results of space syntax shows that a good wayfinding system should be a symmetric tree-branch structure rather than circular structure in a medical building, that areas where it is easy to become lost should have a clear signage guiding system planning and configuration, and that clear guidance information should be provided to the patients to achieve the goal of saving consultation time and improving the quality of the medical environment.
