The sweetpotato whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a highly destructive agricultural and ornamental crop pest. It damages host plants through both phloem feeding and vectoring plant pathogens. Introductions of B. tabaci are difficult to quarantine and eradicate because of its high reproductive rates, broad host plant range, and insecticide resistance. A total of 791 Gb of raw DNA sequence from whole genome shotgun sequencing, and 13 BAC pooling libraries were generated by Illumina sequencing using different combinations of mate-pair and pair-end libraries. Assembly gave a final genome with a scaffold N50 of 437 kb, and a total length of 658 Mb. Annotation of repetitive elements and coding regions resulted in 265.0 Mb TEs (40.3%) and 20 786 protein-coding genes with putative gene family expansions, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on orthologs across 14 arthropod taxa suggested that MED/Q is clustered into a hemipteran clade containing A. pisum and is a sister lineage to a clade containing both R. prolixus and N. lugens. Genome completeness, as estimated using the CEGMA and Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs pipelines, reached 96% and 79%. These MED/Q genomic resources lay a foundation for future ‘pan-genomic’ comparisons of invasive vs. noninvasive, invasive vs. invasive, and native vs. exotic Bemisia, which, in return, will open up new avenues of investigation into whitefly biology, evolution, and management.
Background:
Previous studies have investigated heavy metal exposure could increase the occurrence of congenital heart defects (CHDs). However, there are limited data regarding the relationship between exposure to nickel and CHDs occurrence in offspring. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between nickel exposure in mothers and the risk of CHDs in offspring.
Materials and methods:
To explore the association of nickel exposure and occurrence of CHD, a case-control study with 490 controls and 399 cases with CHDs in China were developed. The concentrations of nickel in hair of pregnant woman and fetal placental tissue were measured and used a logistic regression analysis to explore the relationship between nickel exposure and risk of CHD.
Results:
The median concentrations of nickel were 0.629 ng/mg,
P
< .05 (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.326; 95% CI, 1.003–1.757) and 0.178 ng/mg,
P
< .05 (aOR, 2.204; 95% CI, 0.783–6.206), in maternal hair and in fetal placental tissue in the CHD group, respectively. Significant differences in the level of nickel in hair were also found in the different CHD subtypes including septal defects (
P
< .05), conotruncal defects (
P
< .05), right ventricular outflow tract obstruction (
P
< .01), and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (
P
< .05). Dramatically different nickel concentrations in fetal placenta tissue were found in cases with other heart defects (
P
< .05).
Conclusions:
The finding suggested that the occurrence of CHDs may be associated with nickel exposure.
This paper has adopted related meteorological data collected by 69 meteorological stations between 1951 and 2013 to analyze changes and drivers of reference evapotranspiration (ET0) in the hilly regions located in southern China. Results show that: (1) ET0 in southern China’s hilly regions reaches its maximum in summer and its minimum in winter, and that the annual ET0 shows an increasing trend. ET0 happened abrupt change due to the impact of abrupt meteorological variables changes, and the significant year of mutation were 1953, 1964 and 2008. Most abrupt changes of ET0 in meteorological stations occurred in the 1950s and 1960s. (2) The low value of ET0 was mainly captured in high-altitude areas. Spatially, the ET0 in the east was higher than that in the west. With the exception of a handful of stations, the trend coefficients of ET0 were all positive, exhibiting a gradual rise. Changes in ET0 in the east were much more sensitive than that in the west. Since ET0 was affected by the cyclical changes in relative humidity, short-period oscillations were observed in all these changes. (3) In general, the ET0 was negatively correlated with relative humidity, and positively correlated with temperature and sunshine percentage. ET0 is most sensitive to changes in average temperature, with a sensitivity coefficient of 1.136. ET0 showed positive sensitivity to average temperature and sunshine hours, which were notable in the northeastern, and uniform in the spatial. ET0 showed negatively sensitivity to relative humidity, and the absolute value of sensitivity coefficient in the northwestern is smaller. The highest contribution to ET0 is the average temperature (6.873%), and the total contribution of the four meteorological variables to the change of ET0 is 7.842%. The contribution of average temperature, relative humidity, and sunshine hours to ET0 is higher in the northern and eastern, northern, northern and eastern areas, respectively. Climate indexes (Western Pacific Index (WP), Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), Tropical Northern Atlantic Index (TNA), and El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)) were correlated with the ET0. In addition, the ET0 and altitude, as well as the latitude and longitude were also correlated with each other.
This study examined a representative college activity centre in China’s cold regions and conducted a field measurement study and questionnaire analysis on the indoor thermal environment in winter. Data fitting and comparative analysis were performed on the predicted mean vote (PMV) calculated from measured environmental parameters and the seven-point vote value actual mean vote (AMV) based on the questionnaire. According to the least square method, the corresponding human adaptive coefficient λm in the motion state and λs in the stationary state were obtained. Based on the research, the thermal comfort survey results were reported for the two states for recreational spaces of colleges and universities. These results suggest that the AMV and PMV do not coincide in the two states. The actual thermal sensation is less sensitive than predicted through the sensitivity analysis for the two states. The respondents’ actual thermal sensation is less sensitive when exercising than stationary state. Moreover, both PMV and AMV in motion state are higher than those in stationary state, illustrating that the state of motion has a greater influence on thermal sensation. This research provides a theoretical basis and data reference for the low energy design of recreational spaces of colleges and universities.
