In recent years, alloy and alloy-ceramic coatings have gained a considerable attention owing to their favorable physicochemical and technological properties. In this review, we investigate Ni, NiCo alloy and NiCo–ceramic composite coatings prepared by electrodeposition. Electrodeposition is a versatile tool and cost-effective electrochemical method used to produce high quality metal coatings. Surface finish and tribological properties of the coatings can be further improved by the addition of suitable agents and control of deposition operating conditions. In this review, Ni, NiCo alloy and NiCo–ceramic composite coatings prepared by electrodeposition are reviewed by critically evaluating previous researches. The use of the coatings and their potential for future research and development are discussed.
Abstract:The arc spraying process was used to prepare Fe-based amorphous/nanocrystalline coating. The cavitation erosion behaviors of FeNiCrBSiNbW coatings with different surface roughness levels were investigated in distilled water. The results showed that FeNiCrBSiNbW coating adhered well to the substrate, and was compact with porosity of less than 2%. With increasing initial surface roughness, the coatings showed an increase in mass loss of cavitation erosion damage. The amount of pre-existing defects on the initial surface of the coatings was found to be a significant factor for the difference in the cavitation erosion behavior. The cavitation erosion damage for the coatings was a brittle erosion mode. The evolution of the cavitation erosion mechanism of the coatings with the increase of the initial surface roughness was micro-cracks, pits, detachment of fragments, craters, cracks, pullout of the un-melted particle, and massive exfoliations.
An increase in the removal selectivity between silicon oxide and silicon nitride was attempted by adding organic additives to a ceria slurry for the application of shallow trench isolation (STI) chemical mechanical planarization (CMP). The protection behavior of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and the acceleration behavior of RE-610 in a ceria slurry were studied. PAA served as a protector of the silicon nitride due to the change in zeta potential. RE-610 worked as a hydration accelerator of the silicon oxide. When the two additives were added to the ceria slurry, the removal selectivity increased to 31:1. Moreover, PAA improved the stability of the ceria slurry.
